'Old Salts' to hold reunion Oct. 24
The newly formed Central PA "Old Salts" (formerly the Central PA Chapter of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association) is sponsoring a reunion of all Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Reservists who drilled at NRC Altoona from 1947 to 1994. Their guests are also welcome to attend.
The reunion will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Duncansville VFW Post.

Newry Borough to mark 150 years
Newry Borough is celebrating its founding-150 years … 1876 to 2026. In conjunction with St. Patrick's Festival in the Shade, an open house during the sesquicentennial is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the new Borough Building. Refreshments will be served.

Special meeting for railway employees
NARVRE Unit #173, Altoona will hold a special meeting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Prime Sirloin Buffet in Duncansville.
The meeting will feature NARVRE National Vice President Ron Hylla from Minnesota and Joe Constantine of the Jones Granger Law Firm.
Jones Granger serves as NARVRE's designated legal counsel for asbestos-related matters. Constantine will discuss asbestos in the workplace and eligibility for the $30 billion Asbestos Trust Fund,
All active and former railroad employees and their spouses are invited to attend. Members and nonmembers are welcome. Other active and retired railroad employees are encouraged to attend. Food and refreshments will be provided by Jones Granger.

AHS Class of 1960 to meet for lunch
The Altoona High School Class of 1960 will meet for lunch at noon Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the back room at Perkins Restaurant on Pleasant Valley Boulevard.
Classmates and guests are welcome.
The room is reserved for the first Tuesday of every month.
PASR changes August meeting location
The Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Marzoni's in Greenwood. This is a meeting location change for this month.
Monetary donations will be collected for WALY Winter Warmth. New members are encouraged to attend.
AFSCME retirees cancel summer party
The summer party of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Retirees subchapter 8306 has been canceled.
The regular monthly meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Union Hall on Patch Way Road. The upcoming convention will be discussed.
The executive board will meet at 12:30. p.m.
New members are encouraged to attend.
