Rotary Club of Altoona awards $21,000 in scholarships

The Rotary Club of Altoona awarded $21,000 in scholarships to 21 Blair County graduating seniors as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting education and developing future community leaders.
The scholarships were presented to students from Altoona Area School District and Bishop Guilfoyle Academy.
This year, 17 Altoona Area School District students and four Bishop Guilfoyle Academy students received scholarship awards.
The Rotary Club's scholarship program recognizes students for their academic achievement, leadership, community involvement and future educational goals.
The club has a long-standing tradition of investing in local students as they pursue higher education and career opportunities.
This year's recipients include:
Altoona Area School District -- Julian Pringle, Shayla Austin, Sage Bower, Samarra River Wertz, Luke Schimminger, Grace Hovan, Savana Coho, Kirra Klein, Colin Etters, Brookelyn Weaver, Natalie Etters, Kody Webster, Chloe Kessling, Khamden Thompkins, Kaya Sprankle, Brooke Dalby and Anthony Lockard.
Bishop Guilfoyle Academy -- Gia Adams, Leah Byrne, Rebekah Adams and Lauren Lehman.
Since launching its scholarship program in 1998, the Rotary Club of Altoona has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars to area students, helping them pursue college, vocational and technical education opportunities.
The program reflects Rotary's mission of service above self and its commitment to strengthening the future of the Blair County community through education.
