Society names Photographer of Year
The ABC Photo Society held its 73rd Annual Banquet on July 6 at the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library Community Room.
Phil Andraychak was recognized as the Photographer of the Year for the 2025 Competitions with a certificate from The Film Center.
Brandon Hirt was Show Champion for the Print Competition. Eric Gaston was Show Champion for the Projected Image Competition.
Brandon Hirt took Best of Show in the Print Competition with his image "Rainbow Falls" and Best of Show in the Projected Image Competition for "Driftwood Dawn."
The top scores for the club year were awarded to Phil Andraychak, first; Brandon Hirt, second; Eric Gaston, third; and Janet Klingbeil, fourth.
The club enters competitions held by the Photographic Society of America, competing against photographers all over the world. Eric Gaston received a Merit Award for his image "Serenity."
The ABC Photo Society meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library and does photo outings for some summer meetings. The website is www.abcps.club.
Blair Garden Club to hold picnic July 27
Blair Garden Club will hold its summer picnic on Monday, July 27, Fort Roberdeau in Sinking Valley.
Members will meet there at 5 p.m. for a tour of the
fort followed by the picnic at 6 p.m. in Oak Hall.
Members should check their yearbook as to which food item they are to bring. Officers will provide the tablecloths and beverages.
Participants should bring their best garden story or sample to share with the other members.
Chicken barbecue set for July 26
The Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department will hold a chicken barbecue at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 26, until sold out. Participants can eat in or take out.
It will be held at the firehall, 206 Wayne St., Hollidaysburg.
The cost is $14, which includes half a chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, macaroni salad, roll and butter.
Civil War Round Table to meet Aug. 4
The Central PA Civil War Round Table will meet at
7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the Activities Room of the South Hills School of Business & Technology, 480 Waupelani Drive, State College.
Jonathan A. Noyales of Martinsburg, W.Va., will speak on "After I Am Gone, the Battle for General Philip Sheridan's Legacy & Memory."
Noyalas holds the Hugh & Virginia McCormick Chair in Civil War History at Shenandoah University and is the director of Shenandoah University's McCormick Civil War Institute. He is the author or editor of 17 books including most recently "General Phillip H. Sheridan: Life, War, and Memory" and "The Blood-Tinted Waters of the Shenandoah: The 1864 Valley Campaign's Battle of Cool Spring" and has authored more than 100 articles, essays, chapters and reviews in a variety of popular and scholarly publications.
He has appeared on C-SPAN's American History TV and PCN and consulted on various public history projects with the National Park Service, American Battlefield Trust, National Geographic and Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District.
Noyalas is the recipient of numerous awards for his teaching and scholarship, including the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia's Outstanding Faculty Award, which is the highest honor that can be awarded to anyone teaching at a college or university in the Old Dominion.

Claysburg to hold Community Days
The 50th Claysburg Area Community Days will be
held from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, and 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9.
There will be a large selection of food on both days, as well as games, crafts and other events. On Friday evening and Saturday, Greenfield Township will sponsor a softball tournament at the Little League Field, and there will be a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament sponsored by the C-K Basketball Boosters. Some food booths will be open Friday night.
