Hollidaysburg library schedules programs for July

The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library has announced its activities for July.

The library will be closed on July 3, 4 and 5 in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.

n Canasta and Mah Jongg games are held at 11 a.m. on Mondays. Beginners are welcome.

n Needlework & Arts Group is held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Bring your own materials and projects for this crafting club intended for adults.

n Twisted Stitchers meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Bring your own project, yarn and hooks; spend time with other crafters.

n Paws to Read will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11. Meet and read to pets from the Central PA Humane Society. Children ages 5 and up are welcome with their caregivers.

n Altoona/Blair County Photo Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 6. The Photo Society gathers to discuss a variety of topics, including taking and editing pictures. Learn something new with any type of camera or smart phone. New members are welcome. Call 814-207-1479 with questions.

n Women Writers Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 14. June’s book will be “Hill Women” by Cassie Chambers.

n All That Glitters Summer Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 30, to discuss “Babbitt” by Sinclair Lewis. All are welcome.

Summer reading program

n Summer Reading for Children: “Unearth a Story” runs from June 15 to July 31. Mondays are Maker Monday (all day/all ages). Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., there is a storytime and craft for all ages. Thursdays at 1 p.m., there are special STEM events each week. Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. is LEGO Club.

n GYOTAKU! will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 2. Learn the traditional art of Japanese fish printing and print your own fish fossil with Michael Garbinsky, Trough Creek State Park educator.

n DINO Chalk the Walk! will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 9. Come and decorate the library’s sidewalks with your dinosaur creations.

n Discover Life Underground! at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 16, with Lisa Haas, Blair County Conservation District educator.

n Geocaching Adventures! will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday,

July 23. Go on a TRex Treasure Hunt with Ms. Erickson and Mr. Harris.

n Turn Dirt Into Art! at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 30, with Lisa Haas, Blair County Conservation District educator.

n Book Bucks are back. Children receive Book Bucks for every library program they attend this summer. Book bucks are also awarded for daily reading. Book Bucks can be used to buy prizes in the library’s Book Buck Store. Stop by the library to sign up for Summer Reading.

n Adults and Teens: Unearth a Story Reading Challenge ’26! runs from June 1 to July 31. Read to earn raffle tickets for gift cards. Adults and teens earn raffle tickets for every five hours that they read. There are also reading challenges along the road. Game cards available at the library circulation desk. Raffle drawings will be held July 31.

StoryWalk Hollidaysburg

Join the library in Downtown Hollidaysburg for this fun, family-friendly self-guided walk. Read the book “Never Follow a Dinosaur” by Alex Latimer on each storefront poster as you stroll.

Pick up or download a StoryWalk map and worksheet (one for each child) at one of the following spots: Hollidaysburg Area Public Library, Copy-Rite Banner Zone or HACP Facebook (downloadable).

Each child will receive a free book of their choosing upon completion.

StoryWalk runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, Sept. 1.
