Poster contest celebrates America250

Entries accepted through July 1

The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Bedford invites artists of all ages to take part in “Our American Story,” a poster contest being held in celebration of 250 years of America.

Submissions will be accepted through Wednesday, July 1.

Winners will be announced July 11 and will be on display in the SAMA Gift Shop through the end of August.

For an entry form, contact SAMA Bedford at 814-589-3020 or email bedford@sama-art.org.

This year’s theme encourages participants to share their own perspective on the city we call home — its character, its people, and its progress. As Bedford continues to grow in many positive ways, this contest offers an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate that journey through art. The contest is open to all ages and skill levels, from beginner to advanced. There is no fee to enter. Full details and entry guidelines are available on the Bedford museum’s Facebook page.

Entries will be judged in three age groups, with three prizes awarded in each category: Youth (ages 6-12); Teens (ages 13-17); and Adults (ages 18 and older)

Cash prizes for the Youth and Teen categories are: $50 Best of Show, $25 Award of Excellence, $15 Honorable Mention.

In the Adult category, the prizes are a $100 gift card to The Union Hotel and Restaurant, a $50 gift card to Weis Markets, and a $25 gift card to Bedford Candies.

The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art is in the historic Anderson House, 137 E. Pitt St., Bedford. The museum is open from noon to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The museum is an accessible facility and is open to the public free of charge. A $5 admission donation is suggested to help support SAMA’s free and low-cost educational services, cultural event programming and regional artistic exhibitions.
