Hollidaysburg library schedules June programs

The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library has announced its activities for June. The library will be closed on Friday,

June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

The Children’s Library will take a short hiatus from regular programming to prepare for Summer Reading. See the Summer Reading schedule below.

n Canasta and Mah Jongg games are held at

11 a.m. Mondays. Beginners are welcome.

n Needlework & Arts Group is held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Bring your own materials and projects for this crafting club intended for adults.

n Twisted Stitchers meets from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Bring your own project, yarn and hooks.

n Paws to Read will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6. Meet and read to pets from the Central PA Humane Society. Children ages 5 and up are welcome with their caregivers.

n Altoona/Blair County Photo Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 1. The Photo Society gathers to discuss a variety of topics, including taking and editing pictures. Learn something new with any type of camera or smart phone. New members are welcome. Call 814-207-1479 with questions.

n The Inspirational Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11. This month’s book selection is “Bookshop By the Sea” by Denise Hunter.

n Women Writers Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9. June’s book will be “The Safekeep” by Yael Van Der Wouden.

n All That Glitters Summer Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 25, to discuss “The Age of Innocence” by Edith Wharton. All are welcome.

n Summer Reading for Children: “Unearth a Story” will take place from June 15 to July 31.

Maker Monday will take place all day Mondays. It is for all ages.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Storytime and Craft for all ages will be held at 10:30 a.m.

On Thursdays, Special STEM events will be held at 1 p.m. each week.

On Fridays, LEGO Club will meet from 1 to 3 p.m.

n Book Bucks are back. Children receive Book Bucks for every library program they attend this summer. Book bucks are also awarded for independent reading. Book Bucks can be used to buy prizes in the library’s Book Buck Store. Stop by the library to sign up for Summer Reading.

n Adults and Teens: Unearth a Story Reading Challenge ’26. From

June 1 to July 31, read to earn raffle tickets for gift cards. Adults and teens earn raffle tickets for every five hours that they read. There are also reading challenges along the road. Game cards are available at the library Circulation Desk. Raffle drawings will be held

July 31.

n StoryWalk Hollidaysburg. Join us in Downtown Hollidaysburg for this fun, family-friendly self-guided walk. Read the book “Never Follow a Dinosaur” by Alex Latimer, on each storefront poster as you stroll. Pick up or download a StoryWalk map and worksheet (one for each child) at one of the following spots: Hollidaysburg Area Public Library, Copy-Rite Banner Zone or HACP Facebook (downloadable). Each child receives a free book of their choosing upon completion. StoryWalk runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, Sept. 1.
