Cresson library sets programs for May

Cresson Public Library has announced its upcoming programs.

The library will be closed on Saturday, May 23, and Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day.

Pop-Up Craft Days: On Tuesdays, May 5 and May 19, children can stop by the library to make spring DIY crafts. All materials and instructions are provided.

Story Time and Activity Hour: Story Time will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9.

Pawsome Reading Program: The therapy dogs will return from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 20. Even if your child cannot read yet, your child can look through a picture book and use his/her imagination to make up a story to tell the dog. Preregistration is required to schedule 15 to 20 minutes of your child reading one-on-one to the dog. Call the library at 814-886-2619 to schedule a time.

Story Stitchers Sewing Club: Story Stitchers will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. May 27. Anyone who can thread a needle can participate. Call the library at 814-886-2619 for information on past or present projects.

Tick Talk — Tiny Ticks, Big Risks: Understanding Ticks and Their Diseases: Join J.T. Bandzuh from Mount Aloysius College, Cresson, at noon Saturday, May 2, for a talk on deer ticks. This presentation will cover how to identify ticks, understand common health risks and take simple steps to protect yourself, your family and your pets.

Head Start Registration: Register children ages 3-5 for Head Start from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 7. Take proof of income (W-2, check stubs), the child’s birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency, as well as Social Security cards, insurance cards and any relevant court-ordered custody documents.

Lottery Ticket Fundraiser: Tickets are available at the library for drawings July 1-5. The winning number is determined by the PA Daily Lottery Number. Each ticket is $10 and directly benefits the Cresson Public Library. Tickets were donated by Anderson Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Goodwill Truck Collect and Earn Fundraiser: A Goodwill truck will be at the Cresson Firehall parking lot (note the change in location this year) from 1 to 5 p.m.

June 27, and the library will receive a donation based on the weight of the truck. Eligible items include clothing, linens, housewares, shoes, purses, toys, glassware, cooking accessories, pictures, sports equipment (no weights or exercise machines), tools, musical instruments, electronics (no TVs), jewelry, knick-knacks and light furniture (kitchen chairs, small tables) — all in sellable condition.
