Eldorado Civics plan spaghetti dinner

A take-out spaghetti dinner will be held from noon

to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Eldorado Civic Association, 5939 California Ave., Altoona.

Tickets are $10 (take-out only), which includes spaghetti, meatball, salad and roll. Order by June 3 by calling 814-935-9336.

This is a fundraiser for the Eldorado Civic Association, sponsor of the Altoona Area Teener Baseball League and the Miracle League of Blair County.

School retirees to meet June 2

The Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, at Marzoni’s in Duncansville. Monetary donations will be collected for the Discovery Garden.

New members are encouraged to attend.

Central Class of 1969 to meet June 2

The Class of 1969 from Central High School, Martinsburg, will gather for dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, at The Dream, Hollidaysburg.

Altoona Class of ’60 to meet at Perkins

The Altoona High School Class of 1960 will meet for lunch at noon Tuesday, June 2, in the back room at Perkins Restaurant on Pleasant Valley Boulevard.

RSVPs are not necessary.

The group meets on the first Tuesday of every month.

NARVRE to meet June 3 at Prime Sirloin

The National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, at Prime Sirloin.

NARVRE is the only chartered national organization whose sole purpose is to protect pension rights.

All retired, veteran and present employees (and their spouses) are invited to attend the meeting of NARVRE Unit #173, Altoona. Members and nonmembers are welcome.

Swinging Squares plan June dances

The Swinging Squares Square and Round Dance Club has announced its June schedule.

All dances are held on Thursday evenings at the Jaggard Street United Methodist Church in Altoona. Prerounds are from 6 to 6:30 p.m. with the class and dancing from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

June 18 — Club picnic

June 25 — No dance.

AFSCME cancels June meeting

The AFSCME retirees subchapter 8306 will not meet in June. Their next meeting will be held in July.

Railroaders Museum to present lecture

The Railroaders Memorial Museum will host its fifth guest speaker for the “Along the Broadway: Historical Lecture Series” at 7 p.m. Friday, June 5, n the Seidel Auditorium on the first floor. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

The speaker will be Kenneth Serfass, a traveling historian who also does an impersonation of President Ulysses S. Grant. Serfass will present “Looking at the United States at 250 from the Centennial President.”

This lecture will provide not only history to celebrate America’s birthday, but also how our nation became an industrial giant and economic hub with the work from our immigrants and railroad construction.

Admission is $5 with snacks and drinks available for purchase. Seating will be limited. Tickets can be purchased at the door, through the website or on the museum’s Facebook page. All proceeds benefit the museum’s Curatorial Department.

Bedford Historical Society to host author

The Bedford County Historical Society will hold a presentation and book signing for “The Revolutionary War Generation of Bedford County” by Kevin Mearkle.

The presentation will provide an overview of this new book written about the Revolutionary War generation.

The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 4, upstairs at the Bedford County Historical Society at the Hall at Kinton’s Knob, 6441 Lincoln Highway, Bedford.

The event is open to the public.

DAR collects books

The Adam Holliday Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met May 9 at the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library.

Patty Davis, president of U.S. Armed Forces Mothers, Squad 41, spoke about the mission to support the sons and daughters serving in all branches of the military.

The Adam Holliday Chapter collected books that were donated to children at Claysburg Elementary School. This is an annual project for the chapter.

Members also participated in the Hollidaysburg Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on May 25.

The Adam Holliday Chapter of the DAR America 250 Community Day, “Then and Now” will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at Legion Park in Hollidaysburg. All are invited. There will be entertainment, crafts for children and food. There is a Facebook group with more information called America 250 Then & Now, Community Day

CAST sets auditions

Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre, 112 E. Locust St., Clearfield, will hold auditions for its production of “The Woman in Black” at noon Saturday, June 6, on the CAST stage and at noon Sunday, June 7, in the CAST Dance Studio. Performances are Oct. 23-31.

CAST is seeking two male actors between the ages of 25 and 65 for the production. Those auditioning are simply asked to come prepared to read from the script and interact with others auditioning. No prepared monologue is required.

In addition to actors, CAST is especially seeking individuals interested in working behind the scenes on the production crew.

“The Woman in Black” will rely heavily on technical theater elements including lighting, sound effects, set construction, costumes and special effects.

No prior experience is necessary. Experienced and knowledgeable producers and technicians will be available to teach and mentor those interested in becoming involved with community theater. For more information, visit ClearfieldArts.org or follow CAST on social media.
