Spring vendor, craft show

Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold its spring vendor and craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 2, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the church, 1200 Fourth Ave., Duncansville.

This two-day event will showcase a variety of talented local vendors and artisans offering unique, handcrafted and specialty items. Shoppers can browse a wide selection including jewelry, keychains, diamond art, candles, personalized mugs, silk flowers, crocheted items, laser engraving and more.

Food and drinks will be available.

Admission is free.

Donations accepted

Donations of clothing and non-perishable foods will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, at the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St. (Route 36). The church parking lot will serve as a collection site for the American Rescue Workers.

Clothing, food available

Geeseytown Lutheran Church, 462 Route 22, Hollidaysburg, will hold a free clothing and food giveaway from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2.

Spring and summer clothing and shoes for all ages are available, as well as other accessories such as toys, blankets and housewares. Items are available at the rear basement entrance to the church. Nonperishable food items will be available at the side entrance.

The event is free and open to the community. The church is located across from Geeseytown Fire Company. Contact pastormartyjo@gmail.com with any questions.

Night of worship planned

Holy Spirit Ministry will hold a night of worship from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg. Roy Holtz will be sharing how he evangelizes the next generation in his successful youth ministry program. The evening includes praise and worship music.

Campus of Prayer is May 16

A Regional Campus of Prayer will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Registration starts at 8 a.m.

This event will equip, mentor and train people to reach a lost world through a revived church, and a revived church is a praying church. Tools will be provided through inspired teaching, Christ-encountering worship and prayer that participants can take back to their churches, communities and workplaces to build upper rooms of prayer. If you have been asking along with Jesus’ disciples, “Lord, teach us to pray!” this event is for you.

Cost is $20/person; $25/couple; $10 for those 18 and younger. Each participant will receive a workbook and lunch.

Grilled chicken salad sale

Greenwood United Methodist Church is holding a grilled chicken salad sale.

The salads are $12 and include grilled chicken, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, cheese and egg. Onions and bacon are optional.

Yard sale planned

Fields of Harvest Fellowship, 3620 Fifth Ave., Altoona, will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 8-9. There will be household items, decorations, purses, jewelry and more. The youth group will be offering lunch items for sale.

Community lunch offered

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s community lunch will be held at noon Wednesday, May 13, in the fellowship hall at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1407 Eighth Ave., down the street from St Luke’s. The meal is free; donations accepted. The menu this month includes meat loaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, appetizers and dessert.

National Day of Prayer

Blair County National Day of Prayer event will be held at noon Thursday, May 7, at Legion Park, Hollidaysburg.

The theme this year is Glorify God among the nations — seeking him in all generations, taken from 1 Chronicles 16:24. The keynote speaker is state Rep. Scott Barger.

Local area pastors will lead in prayer for the founding principles of our nation, family, church, government, armed forces schools and more.

This event is sponsored by The Way of Truth Ministries.

Prayer, breakfast planned

A series of events will be held to mark the region’s 30th year of participation in the National Day of Prayer. A prayer rally will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 6 at the Central Assembly Church of All Nations, Bedford Road, Cumberland, Md. An offering to be taken.

A breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. May 7 at the Allegany County Fairgrounds multipurpose building. Tickets are required. Call 301-707-2190 or visit the website at http://www.cumberlandareandp.com for tickets.

An outdoor observance will take place at City Hall in Downtown Cumberland from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 7. This event will feature live music and prayer.

In addition, Unite Music is hosting a night of worship. “Gathered” will be held at 7 p.m. May 7 at Allegany College’s Zimmer Theatre. A collaboration of artists and musicians from seven area churches will participate. Admission is free.

The keynote speaker for the prayer rally and the breakfast will be Pastor Rob McCoy, pastor emeritus of Godspeak Calvary Chapel in Newbury Park, California. McCoy is also a former honorary chair of TPUSA Faith, the official faith division of Turning Point USA.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the National Day of Prayer since the Rev. Billy Graham stood on the Capitol steps in February 1952 and called for Congress and the President to establish a National Day of Prayer.

By April of that year, President Harry S. Truman signed the legislation into public law.

Calvary Boys in concert

The Calvary Boys of West Decatur will present a concert at Jaggard First United Methodist Church, 1801 Pleasant Valley Blvd., at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, May 17. The Calvary Boys are a Gospel Group that sings the older songs of faith.

Food pantry available

The food pantry at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, is available for those in need. Distribution will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Fridays, May 15 and May 29, by appointment only. Call Deb at 814-207-8293.

Bible studies planned

Bible studies will be held at 6 p.m. Thursdays in the parlor at the Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1200 Fourth Ave., Duncansville. The schedule includes May 7 – John 14:15-21: An instrument of change; May 14 – John 17:1-11: An instrument of wisdom; May 21 – John 7:37-39: Be open to the spirit; and May 28 – Matthew 28:16-20: Go, baptize and teach. All are welcome.

Former mafia boss to speak

Michael Franceze, the former mafia boss of the Columbo Crime Family who is now a Christian speaker, will be at Holy Name Church at 7:15 p.m. Monday, May 4. All are invited to hear his presentation.

Free lunch offered

Hot dogs, baked beans and dessert will be on the menu for the free lunch offered from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at the Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren.

Church anniversary celebrated

The 58th Street UMC and Schum Memorial UMC merged to become Christ Community UMC. On Sunday, May 3, Christ Community will remember Schum’s 100 years of faithful ministry in the community during the 11 a.m. service at the church, 5715 Roselawn Ave. All are welcome.

49th Annual Rosary March

The 49th Annual Rosary March, sponsored by the Clearfield St. Francis Chapter of the World Apostolate of Fatima, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in the Expo I Building at the Clearfield County Fair Grounds in Clearfield (just off Route 322). The Rosary March will begin with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, immediately followed by the Rosary, Eucharistic Procession (which will be outside weather permitting). The guest speaker is Deacon Paul Boboige from Nativity of the Mother of God Byzantine Catholic parish in DuBois.

Other highlights of the program include Crowning of The Erie Diocesan Pilgrim Virgin Statue and Benediction of The Most Blessed Sacrament. The St. Francis Rosary and Altar Society will be present selling a variety of food. There will also be various booths with books, religious goods and snacks.

Game, craft day planned

All kids pre-k through 5th grade are invited for pizza, games and crafts from 4 to 6 p.m. May 16 at the Well Ministry Center. Call the church 814-201-2548 or email welladministration@thewellofbc.org for reservations so the church can prepare enough supplies for everyone. Adults are welcome to stay or drop off and pick up. The church is at 605 Burns Ave., Altoona.

Picnics in the park

Well Ministry Center is sponsoring Picnics in the Park at Grove Memorial Park, 23rd Street and Sixth Ave., every Tuesday.

A meal will be served at 5:15 p.m., followed by games, crafts and a short message of hope. The whole family is welcome. Rain or shine. The Well is located at 605 Burns Ave., Altoona.

Grief support offered

The grief support group meets at 6 p.m. Thursdays at The Well Ministry Center, 605 Burns Ave., Altoona. This is a safe place to share, heal and find hope and comfort. For more information, call 814-201-2548.
