Jacobson

Jacobson to speak

Rolf Jacobson, a well-known Lutheran theologian, author and podcaster, will deliver a series of lectures this weekend, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 Arch St., Cumberland, Md. The theme of the weekend is “Wrestling with God: From Lament to Praise.”

Cost to attend is $50.

The series will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, and include lectures on Saturday, April 18, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The weekend will close with morning worship at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 19.

Jacobson is a professor of Old Testament and the Alvin N. Rogness Chair of Scripture, Theology and Ministry at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn.

Movie night planned

Movie night will be held Friday, April 17, at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue. Snacks will be served from 7 to 7:30 p.m., with the movie to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Breakfast buffet planned

Raystown Brethren Church, Saxton, will hold a breakfast buffet from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18. It offers all-you-can eat favorites like eggs, pancakes, sausage and more. It is by donation. Proceeds will benefit Kids Konnection.

Free lunch offered

Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., invites the public for a free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18. Lunch will include a sloppy joe sandwich and macaroni and cheese, a variety of homemade soups, desserts, fruit and beverages.

Pancake breakfast planned

The Men’s Club of St. Mary and St. Michael in Hollidaysburg will hold its famous all-you-can-eat Pancake and Sausage Breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, April 19, at the St. Michael’s Church hall, 301 Spruce St., Hollidaysburg. Donation of $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. Proceeds will benefit upcoming service projects. The breakfast includes drinks and a pancake topping bar.

Meal, kids activities

Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, will host a fellowship meal at noon Sunday, April 19, followed by kids crafts, activities, an egg hunt and more. The event is being sponsored by the church’s youth. All are welcome.

Healing Mass

Holy Spirit Ministry will host a healing Mass at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at St. Micheal Church, Hollidaysburg. Those in need of physical, spiritual or any type of healing are invited to attend. Following Mass, there will be sacramental anointing of the sick; confession and prayer ministry will all be available.

Food distribution set

St Luke’s Episcopal Church, Eighth Avenue and 13th Street, Altoona, will hold its monthly food pantry distribution from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23. Food distribution is done on a drive-thru basis. More information is available on the church’s website or Facebook page, or call the church at 814-942-1372. Leave a message and calls will be returned.

Pancake breakfast served

St. John’s Reformed Church, 906 Maple Ave., Hollidaysburg, will serve its spring pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25. The all-you-can-eat breakfast will feature pancakes, bacon, sausage, orange juice and coffee or tea. Tickets available at the door and are $8 for adults; $4 for children ages 3-12; and free to children under age 3.

Food pantry available

The food pantry at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, is available for those in need. Distribution will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, by appointment only. Call Deb at 814-207-8293.

Indoor yard sale

St. Mark’s of Altoona will hold an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 24-25. The sale will be in the church basement, Sixth Avenue and Fourth Street. There will be more than 48 tables with more than 19 vendors featuring collectibles, household items, gift items, decorations, jewelry and more.

Pasta dinner

St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 1341 Ridge Road, Hooversville, will hold its annual pasta dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 25. Cost is $14 for adults, $8 for children. Price includes lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, side salad, roll. Children’s meals include spaghetti, meatballs and ravioli. The meals are available while supplies last. The dinner will be held at the Church Grove (beside St. Thomas).

Former mafia boss to speak

Michael Franceze, the former mafia boss of the Columbo Crime Family who is now a Christian speaker, will be at Holy Name Church at 7:15 p.m. Monday, May 4. All are invited to hear his presentation.

Picnics in the park

The Well Ministry Center is sponsoring Picnics in the Park at Grove Memorial Park, 23rd Street and Sixth Ave., every Tuesday. A meal will be served at 5:15 p.m., followed by games, crafts and a short message of hope. The whole family is welcome. Rain or shine. The Well is located at 605 Burns Ave., Altoona.
