MARTINSBURG — The Central Lady Dragon Softball Team will hold its third annual Sideline Cancer softball game at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, when they will host Somerset at the Central High School varsity softball field.
Sideline Cancer is a nationally recognized initiative with a local mission to empower student-athletes to use their platform to make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer.
By bringing together sports and philanthropy, the program encourages teams and communities to raise awareness and provide direct support to individuals and families affected by cancer.
Over the past two years, with the support of the community, Lady Dragon Softball has raised nearly $14,000 to benefit local patient recipients.
This year, the team will support Jennifer Welsh of Martinsburg and Angie Maldonado of Roaring Spring, both parents of Central High School students.

Welsh was diagnosed in January with HER2 Triple Positive breast cancer, and Maldonado was diagnosed in February with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma.
“Hosting this game has become one of the most meaningful parts of our season,” said Erica Peterson, Central Softball Boosters. “Sideline has done an amazing job helping us to lift up the power of a team to come together for something much bigger than softball. We are grateful for the support of our community each year.”
To support Jen and Angie during their treatment and recovery, a basket raffle will
be held during the Sideline Cancer game, with all of the
proceeds going directly to the recipients.
