Hollidaysburg library sets May activities
The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library has announced its activities for May.
The library will be closed May 23, 24 and 25 for the Memorial Day holiday.
Canasta and Mah Jongg games are held at 11 a.m. Mondays. Beginners are welcome.
Maker Mondays are held all day Mondays in the Children’s Room. A station will be set up with a different craft, challenge or activity each week.
Storytime and Craft will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. There will be no Storytime on Friday, May 8.
Needlework & Arts Group is held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Bring your own materials and projects for this crafting club intended for adults.
Twisted Stitchers meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Bring your own project, yarn and hooks; spend time with other crafters.
Dance, Sing and Play! 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays, May 14, 21 and 28. Need to get your wiggles out? Dance, sing, shake the parachute and some shaky eggs too! May is the final month to enjoy Sing, Dance and Play! There will be no sessions in June.
Lego Club will meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Fridays. Bring your imagination; the library will supply the Legos. The club is intended for school-aged children.
Tick Talk will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 5. J.T. Bandzuh will hold a public lecture on ticks, the diseases they can carry and what community members should know to stay safe. This lecture is free and open to the public.
Paws to Read will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9. Meet and read to pets from the Central PA Humane Society. Children ages 5 and up are welcome with their caregivers.
Altoona/Blair County Photo Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 4. The Photo Society gathers to discuss a variety of topics, including taking and editing pictures. Learn something new with any type of camera or smart phone. New members are welcome. Call 814-207-1479 with questions.
Container Gardening will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 11, presented by the Blair County Conservation District. Bring your own 14-inch or smaller container and gloves, and the library will provide the soil and flowering plants. Register and prepay at the library. Cost is $15 per person. All ages are welcome.
Friends of the Library Mystery Tea will be held at noon Saturday, May 16. This is a three-course tea luncheon to solve “Gone With the Breeze!” Register and prepay at the library. Cost is $15 per person.
The Inspirational Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14. This month’s book is “Seaside Letters” by Denise Hunter.
The Women Writers Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12. May’s book is “The Confidence Code” by Sandy Rustin.
The Best of Times Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 28, to discuss “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt. All are welcome.
