Bellwood library announces programs

The Bellwood-Antis Public Library has announced its upcoming programs and activities.

n Club Lego will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 23. Kids ages 5 and up are invited to an evening of Lego freestyling using the library’s collection of Lego bricks and minifigures. Walk-ins are welcome, but an adult must stay in the building while the kids construct.

n The library’s Spring Used Book Sale begins on Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and continues during regular library hours from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 13, through Thursday, April 16. It concludes on Saturday, April 18, with Bag Day discounts from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For sale will be gently used books of all types, puzzles, games, movies and music. All proceeds benefit the library. A food truck will be there on the first day of the sale.

n PAWS to Read will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11. Kids will meet and read to an adoptable cat friend from the Central PA Humane Society. Reading to animals is an ideal way for children who may struggle with reading to build skills while hanging out with a non-judgmental animal friend. This program is for children ages 5 and up. A parent or caregiver must stay with their child during the program.

n In celebration of National Architecture Week, the library is teaming up with the Pennsylvania chapter of the American Institute of Architects to present a special architecture themed storytime at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 14. Enjoy a reading of IGGY PECK, ARCHITECT by local architect Ms. Rebecca and other activities.This storytime is open to all families, but younger children will need help from an adult or older sibling to complete activities.

n Family Fun Nights are on a new day and time: families are invited at 6 p.m. April 16 and April 30 for stories, activities, crafts and surprises. No sign-ups are needed, but children under the age of 5 will need help from an adult or older sibling to complete craft activities.

n Families are invited to join aquatic resource professional Angie Spagnoli at 11 a.m. Saturday,

April 18, for an engaging presentation on Pennsylvania’s reptiles and amphibians. Spagnoli is an aquatic resource professional with experience in Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

n Lisa from the Blair County Conservation District will present a water-based learning activity for kids at 6 p.m. Monday, April 20.

n Kids ages 11 and up and adults are invited to join Bellwood-Antis Public School Science Teacher Alice M. Flarent for a hands-on lab experience. Participants will learn to measure colorless, odorless CO2. Adults are welcome. Middle school children should have a parent with them.

n Local artist Denice Rodaniche presents a bird drawing course at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22. Individuals new to drawing are welcome. Materials will be provided.

n Kids and adults are invited to join local snake owner, Adam Bonsell for a live snake exhibit at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 22. Learn about the care of pet snakes and snakes of Pennsylvania. There will be live snakes at this presentation.

n Join Assistant Librarian Miss Alex for a Paper-making Sculpting Craft that will grow its own garden at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 23. This is a family-friendly activity.

n The Juniata Valley Audubon Society will lead a family birding walk on the Logan Valley Street Car Trail at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, April 25 (the walk will begin at the library). Participants will learn techniques to spot and identify local birds. Take binoculars if you have them, but they aren’t required.
