April 19 breakfast to aid service projects

The Men’s Club of St. Mary and St. Michael churches in Hollidaysburg will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday,

April 18, at the St. Michael’s Church hall, 301 Spruce Stt. Hollidaysburg.

A donation of $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger is asked. Proceeds will benefit upcoming service projects. The meal includes drinks and a pancake topping bar.

Woodland group plans wildflower walk

The Allegheny Mountain Woodland Association will explore the beauty of spring in the local woods during a wildflower walk from 9 a.m.. to noon Saturday, April 25, at Prince Gallitzin State Park, Patton. Meet at Pavilion 1.

Led by Merrilee Anderson of Mount Aloysius College, Cresson, this program will start with a simple, hands-on introduction to plant identification, followed by an easy woodland walk to discover spring wildflowers up close.

The registration fee is $5. Preregistration is not required, but organizers ask that interest individuals call 814-472-8560 if they plan to attend to help with planning. Snacks and coffee will be provided.

Tickets on sale for dinner in Houtzdale

The Houtzdale Lions Club will hold its annual roast beef dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 17, to benefit the Houtzdale Lions Scholarship Fund.

This take-out-only dinner includes roast beef, potatoes, gravy, veggies, roll and dessert. Those attending must prepurchase tickets by May 7. The cost is $15 for adults and $7 for children 6 and younger. There will be no dinner sales at the door.

Dinners can be picked up at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 222 Brisbin St., Houtzdale, PA between 11:30am and 1:00pm on Sunday, May 17.

Trash & Treasure Sale set for June 6

The Alum Bank Fire Company Auxiliary will host a community Trash & Treasure Sale, Used Book/Puzzle, & Bake Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Alum Bank Firehall, 6738 King St. Clair Road, Alum Bank.

To reserve a table/space, call 814-839-2944 and leave a name and phone number. Cost is $20 per table. Following removal of your items from the premises at the conclusion of the sale, $10 will be refunded. Donations of lightly used books or puzzles will be accepted. DAR remembers Vietnam, adds members

The Adam Holliday Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met March 14, at the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library Community Room.

As a Commemorative Partner with the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, the chapter celebrated the Vietnam anniversary held annually on March 29 when the last U.S. combat troops left Vietnam.

A display in the Armed Forces Room of the library consisted of Vietnam posters, including all of the branches of the U.S. military, the Vietnam map, statistics plaques, Vietnam handouts and patriotic bookmarks.

The chapter welcomed its newest chapter members: Kristin Seiler, Mary-Catherine Huber, Emma O’Dea, Jennifer O’Dea, Caitlin O’Dea, Amelia Morning, Julia Phillips, Christine Bouley and Marie Little and its new associate chapter members: Diana Bowman, Heather Lay and Suzanne Palmer.

Any woman at least 18 years of age who can prove lineal descent to a patriot who served in the Revolutionary War or gave aid to American Colonists is eligible for DAR membership. Kiwanis Club plans breakfast May 2

The Kiwanis Club of Altoona will hold its annual pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School, Altoona.

Tickets are $7 per person, and children ages 6 and younger eat free. Tickets include all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage and beverages. Takeout is available.

There will be a bake sale and raffle prizes. Tickets to the event can be purchased in advance from any Kiwanis Club of Altoona member or at the door.

Volunteers include Altoona Kiwanis, the AAHS and HAHS Key Clubs and Leadership Blair County.

The proceeds will help fund many of the Kiwanis Club of Altoona’s charitable contributions and local service projects, such as college scholarships, educational art programs, Star Reader Program and more.

The Kiwanis Club of Altoona meets at 12:15 p.m. every Wednesday at the Blair County Convention Center. New members are welcome. Corporate and individual memberships are available. Drag queens invited to competition

The Bedford Arts Cooperative invites regional drag show performers to enter its inaugural drag queen pageant: The Miss BROADway Divine competition.

It is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Bedford Arts Cooperative, 110 W. Pitt St., Suite 2, in downtown Bedford..

Performers who are 21 and older and live within 200 miles from Bedford are encouraged to compete for the winning title of Miss BROADway Divine.

Prizes will be awarded through first and second runners-up and specialty categories as determined by the judging panel.

This is an open pageant for any drag queen artist.

A one-time entry fee of $25 is required to enter. PayPal and major credit cards will be accepted.
