Military food share to be held April 13

A Military Food Share will be held Monday, April 13, at Duncansville VFW Post 8724, beginning at 11 a.m.

This is for all active military, veterans and widows or widowers of veterans living in Blair County. A military ID, DD214 or VA card and photo ID are required. Please enter from Dunnings Highway/Newry Lane and line up on Turek Drive.

The VFW and its auxiliary is thankful for all the volunteers and local businesses who help to keep this program going each month.

Food shares are held monthly on the second Monday. The next food shares will be held May 11, June 8 and July 13.

Pork loin dinner set for April 15

Homers Gap Civic Association, 135 Preston Lane, will hold a pork loin dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 15.

The cost is $12, which includes pork loin, mashed potatoes, green beans, filling, applesauce, kaiser roll with butter and a cookie. Orders must be made by Monday, April 13, by calling Meg at 814-932-3883.

Hollidaysburg to hold student testing

Hollidaysburg Area Junior High will conduct testing and orientation for students new to the district from

3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, in the school library.

This event is for students new to the district, entering grades seven, eight or nine in the fall of 2026.

The session will include discussion of curriculum with a guidance counselor, a brief tour and testing.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend with their child. Take current report cards and standardized testing results. Call the Junior High Guidance Department at 814-695-4426, ext. 6520, with any questions.

Contra dance planned in State College

The State College Friends School will co-host a family-friendly contra dance from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday,

April 18, at the school, 1900 University Drive, State College.

Lessons for new dancers begin at 6 p.m. All dances are taught and easy to learn. Ted Crane will call the dances to music by Strath Hanna. The suggested donation is $15 to help cover the cost of the caller and musicians, and refreshments will be available. For more information, email statecollegecontradance@gmail.com.

Hollidaysburg Class of 1959 to meet

Members of the Hollidaysburg High School Class of 1959 will meet for lunch at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, April 16, in the reserved room at The Dream, 1500 Allegheny St. , Hollidaysburg.

Classmates and guests are welcome.

The room is reserved for the third Thursday of every month.

The Hollidaysburg Class of 1973 will hold a night out at 6 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Zach’s Sports & Spirits on Sixth Avenue. All classmates and friends are invited.

The Altoona High School Class of 1964 meets at

11:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month for lunch.

This month’s meeting will be on Thursday, April 16, at Jethro’s Restaurant & Bar, 417 Parkview Lane, Altoona.

Healthy Kids Day set for April 18

The Blair Regional YMCA will host Healthy Kids Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at its main campus at 1111 Hewit St., Hollidaysburg.

Bring the whole family and enjoy a day of fun, laughter and community connection. There is no cost to attend, no fees for activities, and all are welcome to join in.

Families can enjoy free food including Panda Express, Brain Freeze, hot dogs, popcorn, snacks and more. Kids can enjoy bounce houses, obstacle courses, STEM activities and the petting zoo, along with the chance to explore Pennsylvania State Police robots, fire trucks and police vehicles up close. There will also be a variety of vendors and hands-on experiences for all ages.

YMCA membership is not required to attend.

The event will be held rain or shine.

Genealogical society to host speaker

The Blair County Genealogical Society will host its April speaker event at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the society’s new addition to its building at 431 Scotch Valley Road, Hollidaysburg.

Guest speaker Jim Lowe will present “From Protest to War: The First Year of the American Revolution, 1775-1776.”

His talk will explore the critical early period of the American Revolution, tracing the escalation from colonial resistance to open conflict.

This inaugural program in the society’s newly expanded space offers attendees a unique opportunity to engage with local history enthusiasts while enjoying an informative and timely presentation on America’s founding struggle.

The program is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend.
