Youth take part in Motion Dance Convention

The Motion Dance Competition and Convention, directed by Jocelyn Hrzic, took place Feb. 7-8, at Grier School in Tyrone.
This event emphasizes building a foundation of movement for life, encouraging dancers to pursue their dance, professional and personal goals. Dancers aged 6-18 participated in this dynamic two-day event.
MainStreet Dance Company from Andrea’s School of Dance, Bellwood participated in both the weekend intensive and the youth competition.
The Junior Small Group Jazz “Made You Look” earned a Silver Award, Teen Contemporary Duo “Serenity” (Lily Pyzowski and Norah Gerwert) for secured a Silver Award and Second Place Overall, Junior Small Group Lyrical “Be A Light” achieved a Silver Award, Teen Small Group Contemporary “The Light” for winning a Gold Award, Second Place Overall, and a Special Judges Award for “Outstanding Concept,” Teen Contemporary Solo “Lux Mea Ducet” (Mila DelGrosso) triumphed with a Gold Award, Paige Hoy was selected for Motion Elite and performed in the opening number for the professional show.
Scholarships were also awarded to the following MSDC members:
Motion Scholarship winners: Norah Gerwert, Mila DelGrosso, Stella DelGrosso and Lakaia Long.
Grier Summer Scholarship winners: Norah Gerwert, Brinley Weigand, Karly Gochnour, Jaelee Miller, Madeleine Pasquale, Mila DelGrosso and Stella DelGrosso.
The Shenandoah University Summer Scholarship was presented to Paige Hoy.
Andrea’s School of Dance is on Main Street in Bellwood. It offers recreational dance experiences along with a competitive team.
Students come from Bellwood, Altoona, Glendale, Hollidaysburg, Warriors Mark and Tyrone to receive training in the areas of ballet, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, modern, contemporary, pointe and tap.
