WISE Women of Blair County and the Donna D. Gority scholarship have extended the deadline for applications for scholarship assistance.

One or more scholarships will be awarded up to a total of $10,000.

The deadline for applications is now 4 p.m. Friday, April 24. Completed applications must be received by U.S. Postal mail to WISE Women: P.O. Box 134, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 or info@wisewomenofblaircounty.org.

Scholarships are available to Blair County resident females 21 years of age or older who have overcome adversity or discrimination in their lives and who are pursuing post-secondary education. The scholarship is not available for a masters, doctorate or a second bachelor’s degree. Scholarships are awarded through the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation.

The Gority scholarship will go to a woman whose adversity and/or whose education/career aspirations are in an area that Donna Gority has been involved with in the community: domestic abuse, sexual assault, substance use disorder, mental illness/suicide, child abuse, HIV/AIDS, homelessness, juvenile/criminal justice, teen pregnancy, physical or intellectual disabilities, and racial or LGBTQIA+ discrimination.

Every application will be considered for both the WISE Women and Gority scholarships.

Applications for scholarships include two essay questions. The first requires the applicant to describe her career goals as well as her plans for reaching these goals. The second requires her to describe the adversity in her life and its impact. Details about the applicant’s educational background and any additional information she would like to provide for the committee must be attached to the application.
