Military Food Share set for Monday
A Military Food Share will be held Monday, Jan. 12, at Duncansville VFW Post 8724, beginning at 11 a.m.
This is for all active military, veterans and widows or widowers of veterans living in Blair County. A military ID, DD214 or VA card and photo ID are required. Please enter from Dunnings Highway/Newry Lane and line up on Turek Drive.
The VFW and its auxiliary is thankful for all the volunteers and local businesses who help to keep this program going each month.
Food shares are held monthly on the second Monday. The next food shares will be held Feb. 9, March 9, April 13, May 11, June 8 and July 13.
Allegheny Chorale to begin rehearsals
Allegheny Chorale will begin weekly rehearsals for its spring concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Tyrone Alliance Church, 2103 Adams Ave., Tyrone.
There is ample parking and handicap access.
Rehearsals are held weekly, and anyone who loves to sing is invited to join. No auditions are required.
This year’s spring concert will feature a patriotic theme celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States, honoring the birth and enduring spirit of the nation through music.
Concert performances are scheduled for Sunday, April 26, at St. James Lutheran Church in Altoona and Tuesday, April 28, at First Presbyterian Church in Tyrone.

Hollidaysburg Class of 1959 to meet
Members of the Hollidaysburg High School Class of 1959 will meet for lunch at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, in the reserved room at The Dream, 1500 Allegheny St. Classmates and guests are welcome.

Central Class of 1969 to meet Jan. 20
The Class of 1969 from Central High School, Martinsburg, will gather for dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at US Hotel, Hollidaysburg.
Spaghetti dinner to help seminarians
The Men’s Club of St. Mary and St. Michael Parish in Hollidaysburg will host a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at St. Mary’s Social Hall, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg.
All proceeds will be dedicated to seminarians of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese.
The dinner features both dine-in or take-out meals and includes spaghetti, meatballs, bread sticks, salad, drink and dessert. In addition, a basket raffle will be held with winners to be drawn at 7 p.m.
Dinner tickets can be purchased in advance, as only a limited number of dinner tickets will be available for walk-up purchase. Donation of $10 for adult dinner and $5 for children 10 and under. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the parish office at 814-695-0912 or by contacting John Elder at 814-270-1051.
NAMI welcomes workshop proposals
NAMI Blair County PA is accepting workshop proposals for its 2026 Stigma to Strength Conference.
NAMI is seeking engaging, educational and inspiring workshops that focus on reducing stigma, strengthening resilience and advancing mental health awareness through lived experience, advocacy, education and professional practice.
Proposals are welcome from mental health professionals, individuals with lived experience, family members and caregivers, as well as educators, first responders, faith leaders and community partners
Workshop length should be 45 to 60 minutes. Formats include interactive, skills-based, discussion or panel presentations.

Small games of chance training Jan. 27
Blair County Drug and Alcohol will present “Understanding Small Games of Chance,” a free training for small games of chance licensees, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Blair Drug and alcohol, 3001 Fairway Drive, Altoona.
Organizations are invited to improve their understanding of Pennsylvania’s gambling and small games of chance laws, how to operate games and permitted games and a Q&A with the trainer, Jamie Jones, retired PA State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement.

Contra Dance set for Jan. 17
The State College Friends School will co-host a family-friendly Contra Dance for the community from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the school, 1900 University Drive, State College.
Lessons for new dancers begin at 3 p.m. All dances are taught and easy to learn.
A group of callers from the PGH Caller Collective (Min Davis, Donna Hetrick and Eitan Greene) will call the dances to music by Callanish.
Suggested donation is $15 to help cover the cost of the callers and musicians, and refreshments will be available.
