Bellwood library plans Jan. events

The Bellwood-Antis Public Library has announced its activities for January.

n Kids ages 5 and up are invited to join in an evening of Lego freestyling from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22. No sign ups are needed, but we ask that a grown-up stay in the library while children build.

n Have you ever thought about publishing a novel, but weren’t sure how to get started? Self-publishing is easier than ever, and local author Dustin Hess will show you how at a free program at noon Saturday, Jan. 10.

n Release the wiggles at Toddler Tuesday, a special toddler sized, toddler friendly storytime with lots of songs, dancing, and the kind of silliness you can only get from a trained professional librarian. The winter Toddler Tuesdays are at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday from Jan. 13 through March 31. Toddler Tuesday is for children ages 18 months to 3 years. New families are welcome.

n Local cartoonist Brian Middleton has published his own comics and worked with a national publisher to create a graphic novel, so he can discuss the differences between self-publishing and working with a publisher. Learn how to self publish comics and graphic novels from a professional at this free informational program at noon Saturday, Jan. 17.

n Local author Typhani Russo has written, illustrated and self-published multiple children’s books. Learn about the process of writing, self-publishing and marketing your own children’s book at this free informational program at noon Saturday, Jan. 24.

n At their first meeting of the year at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, Chapters & Chat discusses the “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Belt. This book is a charming, witty and compulsively readable exploration of friendship, reckoning and hope that traces a widow’s unlikely connection with a giant Pacific octopus. New members are welcome at Chapters & Chat. Purchase the book from your favorite bookseller or ask at the checkout desk for an interlibrary loan.

n Sips & Snacks in the Stacks is the library’s annual wine-tasting fundraising: for a $25 ticket you get samples of wines from local wineries and winemakers, gourmet appetizers and live music. Save the date for Saturday, Jan. 31, from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets go on sale soon. All proceeds benefit the Bellwood-Antis Public Library.

Starting at $2.99/week.
