Penn State Altoona offers dance classes
Penn State Altoona will host open dance classes from
1 to 2:15 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 25, Feb. 22, March 22 and April 26, in the dance studio, room 148 of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts.
These free classes are open to those 18 and older and will feature movement and engagement through modern dance technique and improvisation. Dancers of all levels, styles, backgrounds and experiences are welcome.
The classes are presented by Penn State Altoona’s dance program.
Couples invited to valentine event
Area couples are invited to a Valentine’s Day event featuring moments to celebrate and strengthen marriage as we hear testimonies and reflections by local Christian couples with praise and worship music.
It will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb 14, at Snyago Missionary Church, 100 Hollidaysburg Plaza, Duncansville (behind Ollie’s).
The cost is $20 per person. All proceeds benefit Precious Life.
Light breakfast refreshments will be provided.
Reservations are due by Feb. 12.

Knights of Columbus plan chess event
The DuBois Knights of Columbus, Council #519, will hold a free chess tournament on Saturday, Feb. 28, starting at 11 a.m. There is no charge to participate.
The contest will take place at St. Michael’s Church at 15 Robinson Street in DuBois. There will be 3-4 rounds using a Swiss scoring system. The tournament is non-rated, and lunch is provided for the players at no charge.
All grade school level players will receive a chess pin at arrival. Awards are given to winners and runners-up in each age group (grades 1-5, middle school grades 6-8, high school, and adult).
It is recommended that players bring a their own chess sets, and clocks are optional.
It is highly encouraged that all participants RSVP to the tournament director with a text/voice message or email at 814-591-9485 and or caesar2@comcast.net.

WISE membership invited to Paint & Sip
The WISE Women of Blair County Membership Committee invites WISE members to join them at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, for a fun evening of Paint & Sip at Oak Spring Winery, 2401 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.
The cost is $35 per person, payable in cash at the event. Participants must RSVP to info@wisewomenofblaircounty.org by Sunday, Feb. 1.
The fee covers materials, two wine glasses and instruction by artist Janet Lantz. The scene to be painted is a cardinal in a birch tree. The event will last about 2½ hours.
Glasses of wine and non-alcoholic beverages may be purchased at the event. Light snacks are permitted.
If you are not a member of WISE Women, you can join at wisewomenofblaircounty.org with an annual fee of $30.
Indoor yard sale planned in Bedford
The Bedford County Historical Society will hold an indoor yard sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, on the second story of the barn, 6441 Lincoln Highway, Bedford.
Anyone who has any items they would like to donate for the sale should contact the society at 814-623-2011 or bedfordhistory@embarqmail.com.
Items can be dropped off beginning Tuesday, Feb. 10, and no later than noon Thursday, Feb. 19.
No clothing, TVs or computers can be accepted.
The Society is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Proceeds from the yard sale benefit the Bedford County Historical Society.
