Clearfield Wholesale Paper makes donations
Clearfield Wholesale Paper held its Christmas 4 Foundation donation ceremony this month. CWP donated $10,000 each to The Angel Project (childhood cancer) and Girls Night Out (breast cancer).
It also introduced the 2026 recipients: Blair/Clearfield Blind Association, Christmas Eve Dinner, Peyton Kirk Memorial Scholarship and Centre County YMCA Back Pack Program.
Historical society to present program
BEDFORD -- The Bedford County Historical Society, will present "President Buchanan, Harriet Lane, and their Summer Fortnights in Bedford" given by Kris Schaale, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, downstairs at the Hall at Kinton's Knob, 6441 Lincoln Highway, Bedford.
This free event is open to the public.
During the mid-19th century, President James Buchanan and his niece Harriet Lane, who served as First Lady, spent several summers in Bedford, seeking respite from Washington's heat and political pressures.
Their stays at the historic Bedford Springs Hotel offered both relaxation and a strategic retreat, as Buchanan conducted presidential business from the resort's tranquil setting.
This period highlighted the blending of leisure and leadership, leaving a lasting legacy in Bedford's historical narrative. Missives from overseas, Supreme Court sessions, and political intrigues were all part and parcel of summers in Bedford during the Buchanan administration.

First Day Hike set at Canoe Creek
HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Canoe Creek State Park will hold a free First Day Hike on New Year's Day. Meet at the Wentz Education Center.
The event will kick off from 1 to 4 p.m. with hot chocolate, a marshmallow roast and packaged snacks.
The hike will begin at 2 p.m.
All are welcome, including leashed pets.
