PennDOT proposed moving its District 9 North Juniata Street headquarters to somewhere between I-99 at 17th Street and Leamersville, creating controversy because the building had undergone a multi-million-dollar upgrade less than 10 years prior.

The Bloomberg News Agency reported that the Canadian Pacific Railroad was interested in purchasing Norfolk Southern Railroad Corp. and had even held “early stage” merger talks. State Sen. John H. Eichelberger Jr. said this would be a “concern” for Altoona.
