Women's Club to mark 90 years
The Women's Club of Altoona will present "NOTEWORTHY at 90! Celebrating Ninety Years of Service, with Style." The event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Sanctuary at ArtsAltoona Center, Sixth Avenue and 22nd Street in Altoona.
It's an entertaining afternoon celebrating the music, the memories and some crazy fashions through the decades, to highlight the remarkable contributions of women in the community; working together to make lives better.
The Women's Club invites all to attend this milestone anniversary celebration. Tickets are $25 and include wine and charcuterie.

Military Food Share set for Monday
Military Food Share at the Duncansville VFW 8724 will be held on Monday, Oct. 13, beginning at 11 a.m.
This is for all active military, veterans and widows or widowers of veterans living in Blair County. A military ID, DD214 or VA card and photo ID are required. Please enter from Dunnings Highway/Newry Lane and line up on Turek Drive. Food shares are held on the second Monday of each month.
The VFW and it's Auxiliary is thankful for all the volunteers and local businesses who help to keep this program going each month.
Tickets are still on sale for the "Red White and Boo!" event to be held Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Duncansville VFW Post. The doors will open at 5 p.m.
Tickets are $25 per person or $175 for table of eight. Tickets include a buffet meal and music by the band Pletchvello from 7 to 10 p.m. The event benefits active duty military.
Tickets can be purchased at CentralPAticket.com, Unkel Joe's Woodshed or from any member of the Armed Forces Mothers. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes. There will be a cash bar, basket raffle and 50/50.
Homers Gap Civics plan chicken dinner
The Homers Gap Civic Association is offering an eat in or take-out dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the civic association, 135 Preston Lane, Altoona.
The menu is: creamy chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, kaiser roll with butter and a chocolate chunk cookie.
The cost is $12; orders must be called in to 814-932-3883 by Monday, Oct. 13.
Central Class of '69 to meet for dinner
The Class of 1969 from Central High School, Martinsburg, will gather for dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at US Hotel, Hollidaysburg.
Altoona Class of '64 to meet for lunch
The Altoona High School Class of 1964 meets for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of every month.

Genealogical society to host speaker
HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The Blair County Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Roller Hojeth Memorial Library, 431 Scotch Valley Road.
Jim Lowe will present "Blair County Homefront during World War II."
The meeting is free and open to the public. The building is handicap accessible. Donations are appreciated.
Lakemont Lions to host Trunk or Treat
Lakemont Lions Club will host its second annual community Trunk or Treat event on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Greenwood Lions Park.
Children in costume, with adult accompaniment, are invited to the park, from 6 to 8 p.m. for Halloween treats. Lakemont Lions Club members will decorate cars or trunks, prepared to offer candy and other treats to the children.
Other club members will have free hot dogs and water available for children and adults in the park's pavilion. Young children can color a small pumpkin. All amenities are while supplies last. This is a rain or shine event.
Vehicular traffic will enter the park from Greenwood Road. Lakemont Lions will direct vehicles to the event parking area. All traffic will exit via East Walton Avenue. Overflow parking will be available at the Greenwood United Methodist Church.
The club will be selling Lions corn brooms, which come in three sizes. The 11.5-inch deluxe broom is $15; the 10-inch broom is $12; and a child-size version is $7.
All varieties are made in the USA, and sales support the Lakemont Club's local services.

Bedford Historical Society board to meet
The Bedford County Historical Society will hold its annual board meeting that is open to the public at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Bedford County Historical Society at 6441 Lincoln Highway, Bedford.
Larry Smith, local historian, will discuss the history of the 1758 Fortified Bedford House, the Peppercorn Building. Light refreshments will be served.
A brief membership meeting will be held and nominations for board members will be accepted. Nominees must be a current member of the BCHS.

Penn State Altoona plans Candy Crawl
Penn State Altoona will host a Candy Crawl from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16. The Trunk-or-Treat style event will feature 20 student organizations with members handing out candy to children from the community.
Parking will be available in the Hawthorn Lot, and participants will be directed to the Slep Student Center to pick up a campus map.
The event is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The Candy Crawl is sponsored by Penn State Altoona's Student Veteran Organization.
Alto Train Museum plans swap meet
The Alto Model Train Museum Fall Toy Train Swap Meet is planned for
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Blair County Convention Center, One Convention Center Drive, Altoona.
The event offers scale-model sizes in electric trains such as O gauge, O-27, S, HO and N, as well as a wide variety of new and used accessories.
The venue offers the opportunity to showcase the newest products from manufacturers such as Lionel, MTH, Bachmann and American Flyer and American Models and others, as well as vintage stock offered to complete older collections.
In addition, railroad memorabilia and railroad books will be available.
Admission is $5 for adults, which includes a chance on a Lionel train set. Children under 12 will be admitted for free. Parking is free.
This is the largest train show between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg.
The event benefits the Alto Model Train Museum, a registered educational and nonprofit organization.
The Alto Model Train Museum is at 1117 Ninth Ave., Altoona, and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday.
Events such as the swap meet help the organization sustain this hobby for all age groups, and also preserve some of Altoona's significant rail heritage.

Hollidaysburg Class of '59 to meet
Members of the Hollidaysburg High School Class of 1959 will meet for lunch at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in the reserved room at The Dream, 1500 Allegheny St.
Classmates and guests are welcome. The room has been reserved for the third Thursday of every month for 2025.

Resource Fair set for Oct. 21 at Jaffa
A free Community Resource Fair will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Jaffa Shrine Center, 2200 Broad Ave., Altoona.
This event is for local service providers and community members to learn about mental/behavioral health services in the community.
The event will include more than 50 local mental health provider informational tables and there will also be an indoor trunk or treat from 4 to 6 p.m.
