Veterans Day breakfast set for Nov. 5
The Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School faculty, staff and students invited area veterans to a Veterans Day breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School.
The menu includes scrambled eggs, bacon, potato rounds, biscuit, fruit cup, coffee, tea and water.

Marines to celebrate 250th birthday
The Marines will celebrate their 250th birthday with an all-veteran recognition dinner.
The Bavarian Aid Society, 112 S. 13th St., Altoona, will host the celebration on Monday, Nov. 10, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and the ceremony starting at 7 p.m.
It will follow up with a turkey dinner provided by the Bavarian Cafe.
There is no charge for all veterans and a guest.
Dress is casual.
Entertainment will begin at 8 p.m. featuring Phil McCauley.
If possible, please take a new, unwrapped toy for Toys For Tots.

Veterans Tribute to be held Oct. 25
Fort Roberdeau will hold a Veterans Tribute/Recognition from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.
This is a free tribute program for veterans, active duty military, their spouses and caregivers.
Lunch is sponsored by DelGrosso Foods with hoagies supplied by Marianna Fundraisers.
Admission and parking are free.

Ballroom dance set for Nov. 7
Come dance to the sounds of Murphys Big Little band with the Indiana Ballroom Dance Club on Nov. 7 at the Indiana Elks.
Dancing is from 7 to 10 p.m. Cost is $15 per person. A lasagna buffet is available for an additional $21 per person. It will be served at 6:15 p.m.

Program on domestic violence Oct. 31
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, area residents are invited to attend Family Service Inc.'s Lunch and Learn "Understanding Protection Orders" with Lois Fasnacht, training specialist with the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV).
This free training will provide an overview of the process, eligibility, filing procedures and enforcement of orders such as Protection From Abuse (PFA) Orders, Sexual Violence Protection Order (SVPO) and a Protection From Intimidation (PFI) Order. The critical role PFAs play in enhancing victim safety and accountability will also be discussed.
It will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday Oct. 31, at the American Legion Social Hall, 104 Dell Delight Legion Park, Hollidaysburg.

Ballroom dance planned in Bellefonte
A ballroom dance will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at Lambert Hall, Bellefonte.
Cost is $10 per person. Those attending are asked to take a snack to share.
KarPro launches Kids for Christmas
KarPro Tire and Auto Center has launched its Kids for Christmas program and is seeking help to brighten the holidays for area kids and families.
This is the 11th year for the program which started out with helping one family and has grown to almost $25,000 providing gifts to 163 children.
The program receives support from local law enforcement and other businesses. It provides toys, clothes, school items and food to families in need.

Contra dance set for Oct. 25
The State College Friends School will co-host a family-friendly Contra Dance from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the school, 1900 University Drive, State College.
Lessons for new dancers begin at 3 p.m.
All dances are taught and easy to learn. Bob Nicholson will call the dances to music by Contra Intuitive -- Ryck Kaiser on fiddle and Peggy Kaiser on piano.
Refreshments will be available, and free-will donations for the caller, musicians and school are welcomed.
