COALPORT — The Glendale Education Foundation held its regular meeting on Sept. 29 at Josie’s Family Restaurant.

Two new members were elected to positions on the Glendale Education Foundation Board of Directors to fill vacancies created by recent resignations.

Nancy Gobert and Kurt Shingledecker will be filling seats previously held by Kelsey McManus, Kelsey Henry and Lindsay Kallas, who all submitted resignations in recent months.

An additional member will be nominated and elected in the future in order to fill the 11th position. Sherri Campbell was elected as president and Kaylee Wagner will serve as vice president.

A report of recent Foundation events noted that the new book vending machine, funded by the foundation and several donors, was a huge success. Students, faculty and administration are all appreciating the machine which allows students to purchase books using special coins gained as recognition for positive behavior, academic successes and more. The foundation also participated in a recent “Reading Under the Lights” night held at the elementary school with the purpose of promoting reading.

President McManus reported that the annual golf tournament held in June at the Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona, netted more than $14,500, a new milestone for the event. There were more than 100 sponsors, 88 golfers and a variety of special contests which contributed to the fundraising event. The team consisting of Justin Krepps, Logan Krepps, Cody Krepps and Brian Leap won first place for the third year in a row. Sponsor signs were posted at the tournament site and also in front of Glendale High School for a week in order to provide recognition of the many sponsors.

In other business, the board:

n Purchased dictionaries for third-grade students

n Allocated $5,000 for Grade 11 and 12 student dual-enrollment reimbursement
