Veterans food collection Thursday
Laurel Highlands Historical Village will be collecting food and other necessities for veterans and the elderly in need.
The collection will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Sam's Club in Altoona..
In addition to non-perishable food items, the group is collecting gift cards, paper goods, hygiene products, blankets, ceramic heaters and new and used kitchen items and towels.
There are veterans calling weekly for support, the group said.
Donations will also be accepted at the Galleria Mall, lower level, in Johnstown, as well as the Hoss's in Ebensburg and Johnstown, Kimmie's restaurant in Mundys Corner, Stagers in Portage and Randy's Bi Lo in Windber.
Donations can be mailed to LHHV, 390 Rose Branch St., Johnstown, PA 15909.

Rabies Clinic is Sunday in Patton
The Patton Fire Company No. 1 will host a Rabies Clinic and Dog/Cat Grooming (ears/nails) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at the fire hall, 410 Magee Ave., Patton.
Dogs/cats must be on a leash or in a carrier. Dogs must be at least 12 weeks old to receive a rabies shot. Rabies shots are $15, distemper/parvo is $20 and grooming is $10. Cash only please.
Proceeds benefit the Patton Fire Company No. 1.
Democratic women to meet
The Blair County Federation of Democratic Women will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Perkins Restaurant, 3300 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.
All women who are registered Democrats are welcome to attend.
