Tribute garden to be set up at Baker Mansion beginning Sept. 28
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central PA will take place on Sunday, Oct. 12, at Peoples Natural Gas Field, providing a supportive community for breast cancer survivors and metastatic breast cancer thrivers, caregivers, supporters and families alike.
In addition, a Tribute Garden will be set up on the Lawn at Baker Mansion from Sept. 28 through Oct. 12.
The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central PA 2025 Ambassador is Bethany Neff, who is originally from Claysburg and has lived in Blandburg for about eight years. Neff is married with two children ages 3 and 6. She was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer at the end of last February.
The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central PA goal for 2025 is to raise $119,000.
The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central Pennsylvania Committee works diligently for a future free from breast cancer.
They are asking the Central PA community to join the movement and sign up to save lives.
At a committee meeting in February, committee members were re-energized for the 2025 Walk when Sharon O'Keiff-Fusco reported that the Central PA Committee is an anomaly among Strides fundraising committees. Most committees have less than five members. Here in Central PA, we have 26 dedicated members, she said.
One of the most successful fundraising events for the Central PA Strides Committee is the Pink Mulligans Strides Team Making Strides Golf Tournament. This year, the August event raised more than $23,000. Organized by Pink Mulligans Team Leader, Michelle Day, 24 teams took to the greens at Scotch Valley Country Club on a beautiful Monday morning to fund the breast cancer cure. Referring to the an American Cancer Society flyer, Day encourages donations stating, "Your $10 donation matters."
For nearly 35 years, the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer has united communities in the nation's largest movement to end breast cancer as we know it, for everyone.
Registration for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central PA opens at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, and the event kicks off at 2 p.m. at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
