Event set Sept. 28 at Canoe Creek

The 19th annual Lehman Engineers Horse Trail Ride and Trail Walk will be held Sunday, Sept. 28, at Canoe Creek State Park. It will benefit Dreams Go On, a nonprofit therapeutic horseback riding organization serving children and young adults in Blair County.

This one-of-a-kind event brings together horseback riders and trail-walking enthusiasts to support a worthy cause. Dreams Go On provides life-changing therapeutic riding sessions, and proceeds from this event help sustain those programs.

The 2025 Dreams Go On Goodwill Ambassadors are Colten Heidler and Jeffrey Millard.

Colten, 15-year-old son of Kristina Plough of Altoona, and Jeffrey, 12-year-old son of Jeff and Melinda Millard of Altoona, have both been riding horses for three years. This team will help kick off the opening ceremonies with emcee Morgan Koziar, host of Studio 814.

The public is invited to register to participate in the event. Registration is available at www.DreamsGoOn.com or by mailing the registration form to: Dreams Go On Trail Ride/Walk, 311 Heather Ave., Altoona, PA 16602. Event brochures are also available at Canoe Creek State Park, Lehman Engineers and local businesses.

All horse trail riders and trail walkers are encouraged to collect pledges for Dreams Go On to be eligible for top fundraising prize packs. Teams are also encouraged to pre-register. The top fundraising team will receive a pizza party at Best Way Pizza in Duncansville, Hoss’s/Marzoni’s gift cards and DelGrosso’s Park and Laguna Splash All-Day Ride Passes. The top three fundraising individuals will receive a Hoss’s/Marzoni’s gift card (first place, $50; second place, $30; and third place, $20), a DelGrosso’s Park and Laguna Splash All-Day Ride Passes, and a large square pie from Best Way Pizza.

Registration is $15 and all registered participants will get a free event T-shirt and free barbecue chicken lunch prepared by the volunteers at Phoenix Firehall and provided courtesy of Imler’s Poultry and Hoss’s Steak and Sea House.

Walk in registrations will be accepted the day of the event. The event will occur rain or shine. Horseback riders must provide their own horses. Registration and check-in on the day of the event is from 9 to 9:45 a.m. The Horse Trail Ride and Walk both begin at the same time and will depart at 10 a.m.

For the Horse Trail Ride, the Bridle Trail loops around the park and will be an approximate two-hour trail ride. Two choices for the Trail Walk are available. Registrants may choose the Limestone Trail (1.2 miles) near the kilns with a view of a scenic stream, or Lakeview, which is a 0.5-mile handicap-accessible loop (1/4 portion of the loop is crushed limestone) that can be repeated for 1 to 5 miles while enjoying the view of Canoe Lake. Dreams Go On instructors Karen Kurtz, Melinda Anderson and Sarah Stanley will guide horseback riders on the horse trail. Trail walkers are invited to walk with Morgan Koziar on the Limestone Trail.

Activities also include a silent auction, raffles and a kids’ craft area. For details on registration, sponsorships or donations, contact Betsy Lehman at BLehman@Lehmanengineers.com or visit www.DreamsGoOncom.

“All can enjoy the fresh air, have a great lunch and win some nice prizes. Many thanks to our friends at Lehman Engineers and our event steering committee for their continued support to make this such a fun and special day.”
