On Aug. 9, Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church hosted a CPR, AED, First Aid and Stop the Bleed training class in the church's social hall.
The class was led by Heather Miller, a certified CPR instructor with the American Heart Association, and Amy Stayer, trauma educator and prevention coordinator at UPMC Altoona.
Twenty-three individuals were certified during the training course, 15 of whom were DELC members, with the remainder from the community.
The training combined lecture and hands-on practice, giving participants the opportunity to learn and apply important skills such as CPR and the Heimlich maneuver for infants, children and adults, as well as the use of an AED.
In the Stop the Bleed portion, attendees practiced packing wounds and applying tourniquets.
Christine Duff, DELC member and CRNA at UPMC Altoona, organized this class and coordinated the church's purchase of a new AED.
