MainStreet Dance Company named Studio of Excellence

MainStreet Dance Company from Andrea’s School of Dance in Belwood achieved the title of ADCC Studio of Excellence at the recent “On Stage” America dance competition held in late March.
The ADCC (Association of Dance Competitions & Conventions) Studio of Excellence Award honors dance studios that exemplify values such as teamwork and a commitment to excellence.
The 20 youth ages 9 to 18 who make up the MainStreet Dance Company are from Bellwood, Altoona, Tyrone, Warriors Mark, Hollidaysburg and Sinking Valley. They showcased their skills at the competition.
The mission of “On Stage” America is to inspire and empower dancers, fostering a vibrant and supportive environment.
The event took place March 29 and 30 at the Jaffa in Altoona, where MSDC members appreciated the organizers’ commitment to integrity and exceptional judging standards.
The competition concluded a successful, award-winning season for the team. Notably, the team secured the Top Score for Tap Performance with their rendition of “The Piano Man,” featuring dancers Norah Gerwert, Nora Hoy, Paige Hoy, Madeleine Pasquale, Lily Pyzowski, Harper Seiler and Alexa Wolfe.
The Junior Small Group earned the Best Technique Award for ages 12 and under with their modern dance “Flora,” performed by Mila DelGrosso, Stella DelGrosso, Norah Gerwert, Callie Miller, Madeleine Pasquale, Lily Pyzowski, Harper Seiler and Alexa Wolfe.
In the 13 and over category, the Top Scoring Modern Performance was awarded to “Peace,” which utilized Graham technique, featuring dancers Adaya Craig, Talia Craig, Nora Hoy, Paige Hoy and Lakaia Long.
The Teen Contemporary Small Group’s performance of “Rain in Her Green Eyes” received a Diamond Award, 1st Place Overall and the Best Technique Award for ages 13+. This group included Adaya Craig, Talia Craig, Mila DelGrosso, Stella DelGrosso, Norah Gerwert, Nora Hoy, Paige Hoy, Lakaia Long and Madeleine Pasquale.
Additionally, “Vintage Beatz” was honored with the Top Scoring Hip-Hop Performance, featuring dancers Norah Gerwert, Nora Hoy, Paige Hoy, Callie Miller, Karissa Myers, Madeleine Pasquale, Lily Pyzowski, Harper Seiler and Alexa Wolfe.
The youngest competitive team members earned a Platinum Award and 1st Place Overall for their Junior Small Group Jazz “Eccentrica,” with dancers McKenzie Buckner, Stella DelGrosso, Norah Gerwert, Karly Gochnour, Emma Hinson, Paige Learn, Jaelee Miller and Brinley Weigand.
This event marked the final opportunity for MainStreet Dance members to present their solos, with all individuals selected as On Stage America VIP recipients. Paige Hoy’s Senior Contemporary Solo “Better Days” received a Platinum Award and placed 10th Overall, while Lakaia Long earned a Platinum Award for her Teen Contemporary Solo “Will Be.”
Talia Craig showcased her Teen Contemporary Solo “Metamorphosis,” earning a Diamond Award and a Special Judges Award for “Beautiful Ballet Technique,” along with a 3rd Place Overall finish. Adaya Craig’s Senior Lyrical Solo “Bring on the Rain” achieved a High Platinum Award and 8th Place Overall, while Triumph Kilmartin’s Senior Contemporary Solo “On the Inside” also received a High Platinum Award and 7th Place Overall, earning recognition for Student Choreography ages 13+.
Nora Hoy wrapped up her season with two Senior solos, both earning High Platinum Awards. Her Lyrical Solo “Falling” highlighted the themes of joy and freedom in life. In contrast, her self-choreographed Contemporary Solo “Road Less Traveled” reflected her personal journey, emphasizing the moments when she chose an unconventional path, ultimately leading to self-discovery and inspiration. This solo achieved 3rd Place Overall.
