FNB donates to EITC Fund

JOHNSTOWN -- First National Bank's Senior Vice President and Regional Credit Officer, Greg Winger, recently presented a $3,000 donation to the Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Foundation.

This contribution will be directed toward the college's Educational Income Tax Credit (EITC) fund, further supporting its mission and initiatives.

This donation will empower the bank and other institutions to contribute to the educational initiatives offered by the college. By maintaining its EITC status and with the support of this contribution, Penn Highlands will be able to provide classes at a reduced price for students in the Accelerated College Education (ACE) Program and those enrolled in dual enrollment.

EITC supports high school students by offering the opportunity to enroll in college-level courses.

Students promote cancer awareness

JOHNSTOWN -- A group of Pennsylvania Highlands Community College students, including Supporting Scholars, Women's Volleyball players, and members of the Cheer Club, held a "Pink Out" fundraiser to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness on Oct. 15.

The event coincided with the final home game of the women's volleyball team, where students engaged in various activities such as hanging posters, hosting a bake sale and selling bracelets, ribbons and shirts. The volleyball team donned pink jerseys during the game.

Through these efforts, the students raised $360.28, which was donated to the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center in Windber.

Students named Provost Scholars

INDIANA, Pa. - Students from the area have been recognized as Provost Scholars at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Provost Scholar status is achieved when students complete a minimum of 45 semester hours at IUP and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Provost Scholar recognition is given only once during a student's time of study at IUP.

IUP students graduate with 4.0

INDIANA, Pa. -- Several area students graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Dec. 14 were honored for achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average as an undergraduate student.

They include

n Lillie Bowman, a hotel, restaurant, tourism and event management major from Everett, daughter of Boyd Bowman and Erika Bowman. She is a 2021 graduate of Everett Area High School. She is the recipient of the Junior Leadership Award and Junior Academic Award. She was a Welcome Week leader and member of the Club Managers Association of America, College of Business Student Advisory Council, Eta Sigma Delta honor society and Meeting Professionals International.

n Trinity Boland, a family and consumer science education major in the Cook Honors College from Patton, daughter of John Boland and Anna Boland. She is a 2021 graduate of Cambria Heights High School. She received the Professional Studies in Education scholarship and won best post-secondary designer for the Runway Repurposed event. She was an IUP Crimson Guide and member of the IUP Marching Band, the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Student Association, the Catholic Student Association.

Juniata recognized for student voting

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Juniata College has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting.

The ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting recognizes colleges and universities for outstanding efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation. Juniata College joins a group of 471 colleges and universities recognized by ALL IN for completing four core actions:

n Participating in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge

n Sharing 2022 NSLVE Reports with campus voting data with ALL IN

n Developing and submitting a 2024 democratic engagement action plan with ALL IN

n Having a current signatory to ALL IN's Higher Education Presidents' Commitment to Full Student Voter Participation.
