HUNTINGDON -- The Huntingdon County Historical Society will host a series of panel discussions about various aspects of farming, the area's largest economic sector.
The series begins Sunday, Jan. 19, and features a panel discussion with livestock farmers R. Wayne Harpster, George Lake and John Brockett.
The moderator will be Rodney Davis, president of the Huntingdon County Farm Bureau.
This lecture is free and open to the public and will be held at the Huntingdon County Arts Center, 313 12th St., Huntingdon. The panel discussion will begin at 2 p.m. in the main room of the Arts Center and will last about an hour.
Additional topics and dates are: Feb. 16, agronomy and crop production; and March 23, timber and forestry farming.
The lectures are free and all will be held at 2 p.m. in the Huntingdon County Arts Center.
In the spring, the historical society plans to schedule tours of historic barns and hold a gallery exhibit of historic aerial photos of county farms.
The annual meeting will be held on May 31 and will focus on innovations in agriculture.
The meeting will be held in an historic barn and feature local farmers with innovative approaches.
The society is planning to work with 4-H students on a booth at the Huntingdon County Fair in August. And the society's annual Evening of Huntingdon History on Sept. 21 will take place in another barn and feature country music and a contradance.
