Northern Bedford FBLA teams win at nationals

Two Northern Bedford County High School Future Business Leaders of America teams won National championships at the 2024 National Leadership Conference, held June 29-July 2 in Orlando, Fla.
Avery Aungst won her third national championship, winning two in one night.
More than 17,000 students from around the globe competed at the conference.
Avery Aungst, Aiden Wadel and Myah Douglas took home top honors in American Enterprise Project placing first out of 76 teams at the national competition.
Their project, titled “Encouraging Entrepreneurship,” aimed to promote entrepreneurship in the Bedford County community. The team recorded radio advertisements with Cessna Communications to promote Small Business Saturday, set up a display at the Holiday Night of Lights, and created a social media campaign called Small Business Spotlight.

Co-chairs also hosted a district wide career dress up day and taught entrepreneurial lessons to elementary, middle and high school students.
The team planned and implemented career-themed workshops to students enrolled in the After 3 program. At the conference, the trio submitted a 15-page project report and gave a 7-minute presentation to a panel of judges.
Avery Aungst, Aleah Loose and Jaylyn Resh won their second career national championship as a team in Business Ethics, beating 99 teams at the national level.
In 2022, the trio took home the first-place trophy in Introduction to Business Presentation. Their 2024 Business Ethics project focused on the ethical issues surrounding using Artificial Intelligence for customer service relations.
The team took a 50-question test, wrote a one-page case study summary and gave a 7-minute presentation on the case study, research on the topic, recommendations from professionals in the field and procedural safeguards to prevent AI from becoming unethical.

Aleah Loose, Jaylyn Resh and Lydia Koontz placed seventh in Local Chapter Annual Business Report, beating out 107 national qualifying teams. The team created a 15-page report summarizing Northern Bedford FBLA’s activities and achievements and gave a 7-minute presentation to judges.
Joining the placewinners, Northern Bedford had two other national finalist teams.
The team of Shelby Dively, Olivia Helsel and Emalee Bowser were finalists in Introduction to Business Presentation, placing in the top 16 of 124 teams.
Aiden Wadel, Chase Imes and Lydia Koontz were finalists in Business Ethics, achieving the top 14 of 99 teams.
Northern Bedford FBLA was recognized for being a gold seal chapter and earning Gold Status in the FBLA National Champion Chapter Program.

Avery Aungst was recognized for serving as the programs director on the National Secretary’s Executive Council. Aungst also serves as Pennsylvania FBLA’s first vice president.
A total of 25 Northern Bedford FBLA students qualified for the National Leadership Conference in Orlando. To qualify, teams must place in the top four at the State Leadership Conference held in Hershey. Other national competitors included:
