Alpha Beta Chapter installs officers

The Alpha Beta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, International, held its regularly scheduled dinner meeting on June 27 at Homewood at Spring House Estates in Everett.

Becky Johnen, outgoing president, convened the meeting by recognizing members' recent accomplishments: Amy Snyder, the Rosebud Winner at State Convention; Megan Kaufman, dean's list at Slippery Rock University; Nancy Hershberger, the Album of Distinction at State Convention; and Patricia Valentine, the Album of Distinction at State Convention.

Projects Chair Linda Clapper invited members to help make blankets and to help put together back-to-school backpacks for clients of Bedford County Children and Youth at the August meeting. She also shared the positive effects of the We Care Bags distributed to local schools for students in crisis.

Pennsylvania State President and Alpha Beta member Royce Boyd officiated in the induction of new members: Nancy Hershberger, Megan Kaufman, Lauren Zeznanski, Joann Morgan and Valerie Smith-Stephens (via Zoom).

Boyd then shared thoughts on her travels to 25 of the 46 chapters in Pennsylvania and discussed her theme of building communities and the need to evolve to stay relevant.

She also officiated at the installation of Alpha Beta Chapter officers for 2024-26: Tina Smith Gilbert, president; Jennifer Harclerode, first vice president; Amy Snyder, second vice president; Yvonne Bowser, recording secretary; and Patricia Harrison, treasurer.

Outgoing President Becky Johnen delivered her final remarks before passing the gavel to Tina Smith-Gilbert, who thanked those leaders who were leaving office and those who were taking new positions for the next biennium.

In gratitude to Becky Johnen for her leadership during the last two years and presented her a bouquet of wildflowers.

The next meeting of Alpha Beta Chapter is scheduled for Aug. 1 at the East St. Clair Township Building.
