Audrey R. Korotkin, rabbi of Temple Beth Israel in Altoona, was awarded her doctor of divinity degree on March 28 at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati. The honorary degree marked 25 years of rabbinic service to the Reform Judaism movement.
Korotkin was ordained at the Cincinnati seminary in 1999 and received her Ph.D. degree from the college's Pines Graduate School in 2018. She became Temple Beth Israel's rabbi in 2010 and now is the second longest-serving rabbi in the Union Avenue synagogue's 150-year history.
Prior to becoming Temple Beth Israel's rabbi, she served congregations in Piqua, Ohio; Skokie, Ill.; and Saint Joseph, Mo.
A scholar focusing on Jewish law codes, Korotkin is a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis' Responsa Committee, which explores questions arising in modern life from the perspective of Jewish law.
Presenting Korotkin with her doctor of divinity hood was Rabbi Gary P. Zola, executive director emeritus of the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives in Cincinnati.
