Metal Supermarkets offers $10,000
More than 360,000 welding professionals are projected to be needed by 2026, while only 84,000 are expected to be filled by next year. The trade industries are in an alarming shortage, and Metal Supermarkets will lend a helping hand in honor of National Welding Month.
Metal Supermarkets has kicked off the third annual trade school scholarships program, which includes four $2,500 scholarships to support young people seeking careers in the valuable trade industries in the U.S. and Canada. Students have until June 28 to apply.

Student has work featured in show
ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Anna Ward of Williamsburg had artwork selected for the Term III Senior Art and Selected Student Works Show. The full exhibit was on display in the George Waters Art Gallery between May 2-9 and the senior art pieces will remain through May 19.
The exhibit includes a section for senior art students to share their work as well as exceptional paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics and sculptures from students in all class years.
Student presents research
Maegen Steiner, an Altoona grad and Point Park University biological sciences major, is featured in a news item about the School of Arts & Sciences' end-of-year celebrations on the Point Park University website. Maegen presented her research, "Critical and Necessary: A Technological Application to Help Combat Strokes" at the Literature, Culture & Society and Honors Program Symposium.
Student wins LVC Athletics Award
ANNVILLE -- The Lebanon Valley College Athletic Department celebrated the athletic and academic accomplishments of over 600 student-athletes during the 74th annual All-Sports Reception inside the Louis A. Sorrentino '54 Gymnasium.
Jayven Ritchey of Saxton received the LVC Athletic Service Award. Ritchey created a free youth camp for ages K-6 in memory of his grandfather, which provides a T-shirt, meal, two hours of skills and instruction and a guest speaker. He helps his grandmother decorate a local church for all seasons. He is a volunteer firefighter who puts in 15 hours a week at the Annville-Cleona Fire Company during the academic year and his hometown Saxton Volunteer Fire Company during the summer in Tussey Mountain.
Ritchey has also participated in numerous community service projects with the football team, from reading to elementary students to cleaning up a park in Lebanon.
Ritchey, a graduate of Tussey Mountain High School, is pursuing a bachelor of arts in exploratory at Lebanon Valley College.
