Juniata Elementary to present ‘Lion King, Jr.’

The Juniata Elementary School Drama Club under the direction of Drama Club Advisors Heidi Soldner and Kathy Otto will present "The Lion King, Jr." at 7 p.m. May 14, 16, 17 in the Juniata Elementary gymnasium.
"The Lion King, Jr." tells the story of the epic adventures of a curious cub named Simba as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destiny as king.
Along the way, the young lion encounters a colorful cast of characters including spunky lioness Nala, charismatic meerkat Timon and loveable warthog Pumbaa.
To claim his rightful place on the throne and save his beloved Pride Lands, Simba must find his inner strength and confront his wicked Uncle Scar.
"The Lion King, Jr." features classic songs from the 1994 film such as "Hakuna Matata" and the Academy Award-winning "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," as well as additional songs penned for the Broadway production.
The show involves close to 45 fourth- and fifth-grade students. The drama club, begun by teachers Otto and Soldner, with an AASD Foundation grant, has been in operation for the past 14 years at the school, and has given many young students an introduction to theater arts, with many going on to perform in the junior and senior high drama clubs, and even in college.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students under 12 and can be purchased at the door.
