The Altoona Jewish community commemorated Yom HaShoah –– Holocaust Remembrance Day –– on May 5 at Temple Beth Israel with a special Holocaust study tour presentation, “Always Remember, Never Forget,” led by five students from Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown. The students spoke movingly about how visiting Holocaust sites throughout Eastern Europe last year had impacted their lives. Standing behind the six memorial candles symbolizing the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust by the Nazi regime were (from left) Mary Clare Piatak, teacher and project leader; Ashley Koontz; Lauren Conrad; Lauren Crocco; Charlize Amper; Emma Newcomer; and Dr. Audrey Korotkin, rabbi of Temple Beth Israel.
