HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School Aevidum Club announced its partnership with Planet Aid last fall.

Planet Aid is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the environment and funding community development projects while preventing reusable clothes and shoes from ending up in landfills.

"When we began the Tiger Treasures closet last year, we had no idea how many wonderful donations the community would supply. Unfortunately, not all of the items donated work for Jr. High students. We now have an opportunity to not only offer clothing to the students, but we can also raise money for the closet and awareness for the environmental impact of clothing donations," said Jackie Settimio, Aevidum club adviser.

The Aevidum Club collects gently used clothing for student usage. These donations can be dropped off between 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at the Junior High main office, but now donations that are too large or too small for students can be placed in the two yellow Planet Aid bins on Hewit Street.

These bins are perfectly placed for parents to use during parent pick-up or drop-off.

Planet Aid supports Aevidum's clothing closet by giving back money for pounds of clothing collected. Parents can donate used clothing and shoes to these bins to help raise money for Aevidum to continue to provide hygiene products to the students who need them.

When you donate clothing to Planet Aid, most of the clothes are shipped abroad where they support a second-hand clothes industry that creates millions of jobs.

The money raised by reselling collected clothes is used to fund community development programs around the globe that promote education, sustainable agriculture, health and well-being, and environmental protection.
