Participants, sponsors needed for event
The Week of the Young Child Celebration is returning to Penn State Altoona from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in the Adler Gymnasium.
Families and young children who attend will be able to visit participant tables, complete free fun activities and receive information and giveaways; each child will also receive a free book, drink and snack.
This event is in partnership with the Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society at Penn State Altoona and coordinated by the Week of the Young Child Committee and the United Way of the Southern Alleghenies' Family Resource Center.
The Week of the Young Child (WOYC), is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the largest organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of early education programs for children birth through age 8. Founded in 1926, NAEYC has nearly 60,000 members and a national network of more than 50 local, state, and regional Affiliates.
The purpose of the WOYC is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families. NAEYC first established the WOYC in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life. The WOYC is a time to plan how we -- as citizens of a community, of a state, and of a nation -- will better meet the needs of all young children and their families.
The Week of the Young Child Committee is looking for early education programs, agencies and businesses concerned with the health, early education and welfare of young children and their families to participate in and help sponsor the event.
