CLAYSBURG -- Claysburg-Kimmel High School's Future Business Leaders of America Chapter has created a community service project for the 2023-24 school year.
This year, Helping Hands aims to lend a helping hand to community members in need by relieving financial strain on families, promoting inclusion within the community and providing low-cost entertainment in hopes to bring our community closer together.
This year's community service project was created by Launa Musselman, Levi Kennedy, Makenzie Ebersole and the CK FBLA chapter.
It is a continuation of last year's community service project "Serving Seniors."
Helping Hands kicked off their project in August by donating 30 backpacks to elementary students.
In October, they held a canned food drive and received 204 canned food items.
They hosted a Basket Bingo on Sept. 16. The basket bingo consisted of about 70 baskets; the bingo raised a total of $2,450.
With the help of the Claysburg community and local businesses, Helping Hands raised $5,350 toward their project.
Helping Hands held a Halloween Costume giveaway and collected 100 costumes to give away on Oct. 7.
Helping Hands provided homemade Thanksgiving meals at Musselman's Grove on Nov. 23.
Helping Hands plans to host an event for their community service project at least once a month, in order to serve as many community members as possible.
All of these events aim to positively impact the Claysburg community as a whole.
