2 min read

WISE Women of Blair County is seeking applications for scholarship assistance with the Donna D. Gority Scholarship Fund, which is under the WISE Women of Blair County umbrella and administered through the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation.

This scholarship was established at Gority's retirement dinner from her service to Blair County as a long-serving county commissioner. One or more scholarships will be awarded. The deadline for applications is 4 p.m. Friday, March 29. Completed applications must be received by U.S. mail to WISE Women. P.O. Box 134, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 or emailed to info@wisewomenofblaircounty.org.

Scholarships will be available to Blair County resident females ages 21 or older who have overcome adversity or discrimination in their lives and who are pursuing post-secondary education. The scholarship is not available for a masters, doctorate or a second bachelor's degree.

The Donna D. Gority Scholarship is for a woman whose adversity and/or whose education/career aspirations are in an area that Commissioner Gority has been involved with in the community: domestic abuse, sexual assault, substance abuse disorder, mental illness/suicide, child abuse, HIV/AIDS, juvenile/criminal justice involvement, teen pregnancy, physical or intellectual disability and racial or LBQTQIA+ discrimination.

WISE Women has granted $20,000 in scholarships each year for women to continue their education.

The Gority Scholarship is looking to add additional monies to these awards. The mission of the organization is to empower women and to eliminate racism through collaboration, service and education.
