Fitness charity event set for Feb. 14

Fit N Fun House, 3000 Seventh Ave., second floor, rear, Altoona, will hold its 12th annual charity event, "Shake Our CanZ & GoodZ for Canned GoodZ," at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, ValentineZ Day, to benefit the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

This year, the event will feature a Pitbull-inspired playlist. All are welcome to join in 90 minutes of fitness fun for a great cause. If unable to participate, please donate.

The event is free, but organizers are asking for minimum donations of 10 canned goods/non-perishable items or $10 cash to help feed the needy.

Military Food Share to be held Monday

DUNCANSVILLE -- The monthly Military Food Share distribution at the Duncansville VFW Auxiliary 8724 will be held on Monday, Feb. 5, beginning at 11 a.m.

This is for all active-duty military, veterans and widows or widowers of veterans living in Blair County.

Take your DD214, military and photo ID and enter from Dunnings Highway/Newry Lane to register. Overflow traffic from the parking lot needs to form a line on Turek Lane.

Auxiliary meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month at the Duncansville VFW 1665 Newry Lane.

Swinging Squares plans Feb. dances

The Swinging Squares Square and Round Dance Club holds dances on Thursdays at the Jaggard Street United Methodist Church in Altoona.

Prerounds are at 6 p.m., followed by class from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and the club dance from 8 to 9 p.m.

The schedule follows:

Feb. 8 -- Regular club dance with guest caller Cory Geishauser.

Feb. 15 -- Valentine's Day dance.

Feb. 22 -- Regular club dance.

Feb. 29 -- Mardi Gras dance.

Railway employees to meet Wednesday

DUNCANSVILLE -- The National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees will meet at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 7, at Prime Sirloin Buffet.

NARVRE is the only chartered national organization whose sole purpose is to protect pension rights.

All retired, veteran and present railroad employees (and their spouses) of any craft are invited to attend the meeting of NARVRE Unit 173, Altoona. Members and nonmembers are welcome.

Quaint Corner to hold Toddler Time

A Quaint Corner Children's Museum & Discovery Center, 2000 Union Ave., Altoona, will hold a Toddler Time program at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Children ages 1 to 4 can enjoy valentine-themed stories, songs and a craft, with Miss Joslyn. (The craft might be messy.)

The museum will be open to explore from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This activity is included with admission ($5 per person ages 2 and older). It is free for members.

Hope Fire Company to host comedy tour

NORTHERN CAMBRIA -- Hope Volunteer Fire Company will hold its annual comedy show featuring comedians from Steel City Comedy Tour.

The event will be held Saturday, Feb. 10. The doors will open at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. and three comedians beginning at 8 p.m. DJ Tommy Gunnz will play after the comedy show until midnight.

Spring Cove sets registration for 2024-25

ROARING SPRING -- The Spring Cove School District announced that online registration will begin Wednesday, Feb. 7, for children who will begin kindergarten in the 2024-25 school year.

To be eligible to enter the kindergarten program, a child must be 5 years of age on by Sept. 1, 2024.

Any child who did not attend kindergarten and will be 6 years of age by the first day of the school term may register for first grade.

Parents of children who are eligible for registration and do not have access to online technology can call Rena Davis, Registrar, at 814-224-3098 to set up an appointment to enroll.

After completing the online registration, parents will be contacted to make arrangements to provide the following documentation electronically: child's birth certificate, immunization record, proof of residency and the parent's photo ID. Upon receipt of all documents, parents will be contacted to schedule appointments for the screenings to be held at a later date.
