AASD sets times for kindergarten registration

The Altoona Area School District has scheduled times for registration of beginners for kindergarten for the 2024-25 school year.

Registration will take place March 4-13. Those who should register are children who will be 5 years old, on or before Sept. 1, 2024, and plan to enter kindergarten for the first time in August 2024. Parents may register at www.aasdcat.com or by hard copy packet, which can be found on the district webpage, www.aasdcat.com, or picked up at the child's home school.

Upon completion of the registration forms, an appointment will be scheduled for parent and child to attend a session at the school to meet with faculty and receive materials to help students prepare for kindergarten.

Parents who are unable to complete packet prior to the registration date at their respective home school should call the school to schedule an appointment time. To confirm a student's home school, contact Student Registration at 814-381-7585.

Registration will take place according to the following schedule:

Monday, March 4 -- Penn-Lincoln Elementary, 411 12th St., 814-946-8396Tuesday, March 5 -- Baker Elementary, 108 W. Ward Ave., 814-946-8388

Wednesday, March 6 -- Ebner Elementary, 308 Hillside Ave., 814-946-8400

Thursday, March 7 -- Juniata Elementary, 418 N. Eighth Ave., 814-946-8394

Friday, March 8 -- Logan Elementary, 301 Sycamore St., 814-946-8370

Monday, March 11 -- Juniata Gap Elementary, RD 4, Juniata Gap Road, 814-946-8401

Tuesday, March 12 -- MHI @ Irving Elementary, 110 Cherry Ave., 814-946-8392

Wednesday, March 13 -- Pleasant Valley Elementary, 310 Cayuga Ave., 814-946-8397

Beginning March 14, parents who missed the dates above must register their child at the AASD Student Registration Office at 1201 Eighth Ave.

Parents must present proof of the child's age. An official birth certificate is preferred. If this is not available, parents should supply a hospital certificate, baptismal certificate or an original notarized statement indicating name, date and place of birth.

If an adult other than the parent is registering the child, a copy of the guardianship papers or a sworn affidavit must be presented at registration. This copy will be kept by the school district. Children will not be registered without properly authorized forms.

Parents must present their child's immunization records. All children must be properly immunized against diphtheria and tetanus, poliomyelitis; measles; rubella; mumps; hepatitis B; and chickenpox vaccine or date of disease.

Parents must also provide proof of residency. A photo ID with an address that matches the registration address of the student will be accepted as proof of residency. If the photo ID address does not match the registration address then a utility bill, phone bill, etc., may be used to prove residency.

Transportation for kindergarten children is provided by the school district.
