50 years ago: 1974
State, Altoona and Tyrone police raided nine establishments and made gambling arrests. An American Legion, Eagles Club, Volunteer Fire Company, Elks Club, Sportsmen's Club and various fraternal clubs and stores were hit.
25 years ago: 1998
Altoona City Council cut $750,000 in funding from the Heritage Discovery Center in the former downtown Penn Furniture building, but executive director Jane Sheffield said there was still a $2.5 million state capital grant to work with. Altoona also downgraded the downtown Streetscape project from $3.2 million to $1.4 million.
10 years ago: 2014
The Altoona Council of the Navy League had a book donation program for the Altoona, Bellwood-Antis and Hollidaysburg public libraries, featuring books about the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine.
