Date changed for AAMTA train show
The spring train show scheduled for March 7 has been changed to March 24 at the Blair County Convention Center, One Convention Center Drive, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Alto Model Train Museum Association and offers electric trains in O, O-27, S, HO and N scale, as well as a wide variety of new and used accessories and railroad items.
The venue offers the opportunity to showcase the new products from manufacturers such as Lionel, Bachmann, American Flyer, American Models and MTH, as well vintage stock offered to complete older collections.
In addition railroad memorabilia and literature will be available.
Admission is $5 for adults, which includes a chance on a Lionel train set. Children under 12 will be admitted free. Parking is at no charge. For vendor reservations or information, contact Dick Charlesworth at 814-695-2201 or 814-932-8811.
The event benefits the Alto Model Train Museum Association, a registered educational and nonprofit organization.
The AMTMA is at 1117 Ninth Ave., Altoona. This event aids the organization in providing education and wholesome family fun. The club exists in order to sustain the model train hobby for all ages and to preserve Altoona railroad heritage.
Bellwood library announces programs
BELLWOOD -- The Bellwood-Antis Public Library has announced its upcoming programs and activities.
n Sprouting Readers Storytime begins at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, and continues every Monday (except President's Day on Feb. 19) through April 1. This storytime is geared toward kids 5 and older: younger children are welcome, but will need help from an adult to complete craft activities.
n Toddler Tuesday is a toddler-sized storytime followed by an informal playgroup in the children's room. This storytime full of singing, dancing and fun is for children ages 18 months to 3 years. The next session of Toddler Tuesday begins Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. and continues every Tuesday through April 30. New families are welcome.
n Cartoon Club, a graphic novel book club/drawing club for kids ages 8 to 12 is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24. Enjoy discussing your favorite graphic novels and freeform doodling at the library. Cartoon Club is made possible with support from the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation.
n The Friends of the Bellwood-Antis Public Library will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2. Friends of the Library help the library with fundraisers, programs and day-to-day operations at the library. New members are welcome.
n Sips & Snacks in the Stacks, the library's annual wine tasting fundraiser with live music, will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27. Enjoy samples from local wineries and winemakers, live music from Davey B and Music Man and appetizers. Tickets are $25 per person. Purchase at the library or from a board member.

Hollidaysburg library sets history lessons
HOLLIDAYSBURG -- The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library's special History Hour series kicked off 2024 with the second sequence of Professor John Eicher's lectures.
Modern Western Civilization (1500-Present): From Dawn, to Decadence, to Disillusionment, started in September 2023, with monthly lectures.
Although there is a progression, each presentation stands alone, so even if you've missed all or some of the first sequence, don't hesitate to attend one or more of the upcoming series. All lectures begin at 6:30 p.m. and will conclude with Q&A. Admission is free.
The second sequence, "From Decadence to Disillusionment" includes:
Jan. 10 -- Western Imperialism
Feb. 14 -- The First World War (1914-1918)
March 14 -- World War II (1939-1945)
April 10 -- Postmodernity
Eicher is the associate professor of history at Penn State Altoona. He has received numerous awards and honors and has published his research and writings in books, scholarly articles, book chapters, magazines and trade publications.

Guitar show set at convention center
An event dubbed "The Best Guitar Show" will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, at the Blair County Convention Center, Altoona.
Participants can buy, sell or trade guitars from vendors who will be set up at the convention center. Admission is $8. There will be door prizes.

'Soup-er' Sunday event set for Feb. 4
The Catholic War Vets, 290 Valley Ave., Altoona, will hold a "Soup-er" Sunday event from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4.
Soup will be $10 per quart, and there will be a loaded baked potato bar on sale in the kitchen.
The event will include soups, baked goods, basket raffles and more.
The event benefits Families United for Change.
