Juniata sets Constitution Day discussion
HUNTINGDON -- The Office of the Provost and Student Government at Juniata College will host a panel discussion, "Affirmative (Re)Action: Discussing the Implications of the Harvard Admissions Case," at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, in Alumni Hall, Brumbaugh Academic Center at Juniata College.
This event is held in observance of Constitution Day and is free and open to the public.
A panel of Juniata experts will discuss the June 2023 Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) decision in the case of Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard College, which considered whether and how race can be considered in college admissions and its implications for Juniata now and in the future.
Constitution Day is a national commemoration that acknowledges the approval of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. On this day, the delegates of the Constitutional Convention affixed their signatures to the document in Philadelphia. The holiday's establishment dates back to 2004 when U.S. Sen. Robert Byrd introduced an amendment that led to its recognition.

Penn State Altoona sets fall open house
Penn State Altoona will hold a Penn State Day fall open house from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30.
The open house is a chance to learn first-hand what makes Penn State Altoona a great place to start or finish a college degree. Meet with faculty, staff and students and take a walking tour of Ivyside campus.
A free shuttle bus to the downtown campus will be available for visitors to check out the Sheetz Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence, nursing simulation lab, communications studios and classrooms and lab space.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Steven A. Adler Athletic Complex. The program begins at 9:30 a.m. with a structured agenda throughout the day. Please arrive by the start time to participate in the day's activities and events. Visit altoona.psu.edu to register for Penn State Day.
Student wins International Design Award
KUTZTOWN -- Twenty-one Art and Design student-designed pieces were recently selected to be included in the Graphis International 2023 New Talent Annual.
There were also gold and silver medals of outstanding achievement awarded to nine students, including Emma Pearl Smith of Martinsburg.
A gold medal was awarded to Smith for the die cut album cover the Expansion of Soul from the Advanced Type course taught by Professor Elaine Cunfer.
Juniata board welcomes new members
HUNTINGDON -- The Juniata College board of trustees has added three new members to begin the 2023-24 academic year.
The newly appointed trustees, Jeff Craft of Sewickley, David Christopher of Mechanicsburg and Brad Sterl of Wilton Manors, Fla., began their service on Sept. 1 for three-year terms.
