Educators receive Woodson Award

Two Blair County educators were recently presented with the Lauretta Woodson Award by the Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
The award is possible through a bequest from Woodson who taught for many years at the public school and college level in Eastern PA.
Her gift is to be given to one teacher and one support staff person each year by each of the counties in the commonwealth for that individual's outstanding contribution to education and to the children and school districts with which they interact.
Recipients are nominated by their peers and then chosen by a committee of retired educators from the county in which they work.
This year awards for Blair County were given to Kerry Naylor, an English teacher at Bellwood-Antis High School, and Matt Lechner, educational support professional in the autistic support classroom at Altoona Area High School.
Both awards were presented at the recipient's respective school board meeting. They were presented with a PASR pin and a plaque honoring them for their work.
The Lauretta Woodson Award is given each year and is one of the PASR's most prestigious honors.
