BG, AAHS students talk about their work

The Women’s Club of Altoona has been recognizing the artwork of high school students for over 50 years.

This spring, the club again honored winning art students from both Altoona Area High School and Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School.

Co-chairman Mary K. DeLeo welcomed the teachers, students, families and guests to the AWC clubhouse.

She introduced BGHS art teacher Neil Young. Young’s students displayed winning examples ranging from graphite, acrylic and watercolor painting, to mixed media.

All of the students talked about their art as to inspiration, technique and level of difficulty.

Three teachers from Altoona Area High were introduced, so they could then introduce their student winners.

Ron Bowser’s students presented and explained metal jewelry they have crafted.

Kathryn Curry’s art students presented winning entries of charcoal, acrylic paint, and mixed media.

Eric Hoover’s students displayed mostly ceramics, but included examples of mixed media as well.

Club members served light refreshments while those attending could again look over the remarkable work produced by the young artists.

Sandra Hollen was co-chairman of the event, assisted by LuAnn Hallinan, Maureen Kirsch, Sharlene Kirsch and Deborah Thomas.

Starting at $2.99/week.
