50 years ago: Aug. 29, 1973

Congressman Bud Shuster called it "downright absurd" that PennDOT would consider taking 90 homes instead of a swampy ballfield to extend Rt. 220 through the Lakemont area.

25 years ago: Aug. 29, 1998

The Albert Michaels Gallery, 3rd St. and 4th Ave., had refurbished 35 portraits from the Supreme Court middle district in Harrisburg and were working on portraits from the eastern district in Philadelphia and western district in Pittsburgh.

10 years ago: Aug. 29, 2013

Meghan Sinisi, 18, Altoona, was chosen as the featured baton twirler at Syracuse University in New York for their marching band, a position known as "The Orange Girl."
